 Apple censors Ulysses
it's amazing how crazy the little app censors are at Apple. The latest is apparently a comic book of the book Ulysses by James Joyce. Having read the book (after 2 years of struggle and pain), I don't know wtf they're thinking. Ultimately, it was banned by Apple for showing cartoon boobies. Funny that we're back to banning Ulysses after 80 years. Apparently, Oscar Wilde also got censored. As wired quips: http://www.wired.com/epicenter/2010/06/ ... es-ulyssesFor those living in Victorian times, BEWARE! The boobs are shown in the linked article.

 Re: Apple censors Ulysses
hehe, yep, they sure do. I guess as long as it spurs on real innovation, I'm ok with it, but I'm certainly never buying anything that comes from Steve Jobs' psychotic worldview.

That's freakin' stupid. I mean, I can understand they don't want nudity appearing etc - but lets face it, the only reason for this is their own protection. Honestly, I don't understand why censorship has gone so far. It'd be much more efficient to just kill off idiots instead

Ah, but there are so many idiots! BTW, Apple reversed their decision. Guess even Apple is subject to poor publicity.

 Re: Apple censors Ulysses
This is freaking scary shit. Some more proof that Apple is evil incarnate. I seriously believe that one of the reasons for the downfall of Western civilization (if it ever really occurs) will be a return to puritanism and a rejection of science and innovation (and 'immorality' and other crap that is associated with 'taking science too far').
I mean Jesus, they're boobs. Drawn boobs. In a rather non-sexual context. Have Apple ever heard of the internet, you know that place where 95% of all websites are full of porn?*
*rough approximation

 Re: Apple censors Ulysses
the funny thing is that the same thing is available on the internet, which would be accessible via the iphone web browser. It's just silly and pointless.
I agree on the potential for a future dark age, but I'm hopeful we've progressed far enough that it's just not possible. I could see a country or even a continent possibly do it, but not the whole world at once.

 Re: Apple censors Ulysses
Yeah, but if that country or continent has enough military/economic might, that may well affect the rest of the world. Imagine if a crazy-ass substream like those protesters who picket at soldiers' funerals ever got in power. I'm 200% sure that they'd start by firing nukes at the "sinners" in the rest of the Western world and at the "non-believers" in the rest of the world. Of course, we're still some ways from such a scenario, but if there's one Western country that has a worryingly increase in influence of fundamentalist Christians it's the US. And they have a lot of gun.
