hehe...this guy apparently had a bad day and decided to lift a baseball bat from the sporting goods section, carry it over to the electronics section, and proceed to bash 29 televisions. Good times were had by all.

Heh...Falling Down much? :)

Love how the security guard is just standing there going...yeah...I'm just gonna wait for the cops. But yeah, what DO you do in such a situation? It's not exactly enough to warrant raising a gun at someone, let alone shoot them, if they're not threatening anyone physically. But you don't want to go up there and take him down barehandedly while he's swinging a bat either.

All the tvs and the shop itself is insured against vandalism. Theres really no point in interfering. The security personnel is more of a "presence factor" in my understanding.

agreed... him interfering would probably piss off the insurance carrier. There was a time when I had to escort a manager as they carried cash from teh store to the bank down the street. The instructions were very clear... if someone tries to take it, let them. the only reason I was there was to verify the manager wasn't stealing it.

Same at game where I work - we can't technically apprehend anyone who steals, we can only ask them to return to the counter and if they leg it call the police. By which time they've long gone!

Lol, love that Mole. So basically no shoplifter ever gets caught in the UK (or GAME)? :)

I don't know how stuff works over here, but I know that some big electronics stores have security guards who actually take people into back rooms and lock them in there for the police to pick them up. They're usually kids.

I also had one security guy ask me to show me what was in my backpack as I left the store - not when I was a kid, but like a year ago. I told him to fuck off, and he was a little pushy for a while and then got lost. I was pretty sure he had no authority whatsoever to ask that (no one but the police has), so I figured I'd take my chances. And it's not like he was some 7-foot bouncer ready to work me over in the parking lot for it.

Hehe, they don't want us to stop them - but the amount of people I escorted back in to the store working in safeway's (super market) was pushing double figures, Not so much at game because nothing on the shop floor is worth stealing!

It was one reason I disagreed with wearing shoes when working a supermarket, if you had to run in safeway with shoe's on you'd definitely fall flat on your ass.

Never stopped me chasing the bastards though - and one of the guys I Remember chasing out of the show now hangs around in town begging for money with fake crutches. Well, the crutches are real but his limp isn't.

Too bad we can't just escort all the losers of the world to another planet somewhere.

There's this black guy with crooked teeth who hangs around the Antwerp central station and he always goes "Brother, brother, you got to help me..." and then does a really convincing act of almost breaking down into tears, mumbling about needing money for the doctor and shit. First time I met him I felt kinda bad. The next 3-4 times, not so much.

I was on a date with a girl from out of town a while ago and he came up to us. Knowing him already, I pretty much shouldered him out of the way. She thought I was just a jerk who likes to mess with the homeless. Still not sure if she believed my explanation that I knew him from several times before. Yay for my 1337 dating skills (needless to say, it didn't work out).

Well I personally would rather have my date get the homeless guy away from me to keep me safe, rather than say pay him so he goes away. Then he just knows you have money on you which makes you less safe. :(

Nah, it's ok, these guys are harmless. They're actually homeless and usually dopeheads, they don't pack heat. And years of dope and malnutrition doesn't exactly give them a physical advantage over most people.

But yeah, the only reason I did what I did to the guy was to 'protect' her from his bullshit. Ah well. Damned if you, damned if you don't! :)
