He was disturbing though!

Don't get me wrong, musical genius, but definitely a crack pot.

That being said, the pictures are fucking brilliant and creepy.

all the ones with children are just disturbing. I wonder if people just cherry-picked the paintings he had made of himself, or if really had a serious self obsession going on.

I think it was the latter - there've been a few "lines of thinking" regarding MJ's mental health and children abuse, starting with the "he's a child molesting freak" which was then followed by a "he's just misunderstood, he doesn't want to molest children but is still a child himself inside so wants to be one of them, leave him alone!" sentiment.

Lately the whole thing had been in limbo with the occasional joke, and now that he died he's suddenly a freaking saint. As so often.

Personally, I always point out to people that he always settled for huge sums in those court cases with kids' parents. Sure, you can settle once to get stuff done, but every time? That stinks. Especially in the US, where celebrities don't go to jail. ;)

For me, MJ is the funny difference between a child molester who works at McDonalds and a child molester who's an international superstar and (once) unmeasurably rich music legend. One has to inform his neightbours when he moves and is despided and hated by those around him, is hated even by fellow prisoners and will probably die in miserable conditions. The other settles court cases, has fans defending him, and dies a saint with half the world population crying for him. Mmm.

Humans beings have an uncanny knack for confusing financial success or any sort of genius with a sound and healthy personality, when the truth is that they often have nothing to do with each other.

fyi, not every celebrity has a get-out-of-jail-free card.

True, but I wouldn't exactly use OJ as an example for how celebrities are not untouchable. He commited a double homicide, got off on technicalities, then wrote a book titled "If I did it" and generally flaunted the fact that he wasn't convicted for a murder everyone fully knew he committed for years on end, before being finally arrested for (unrelated!) felonies including kindapping, armed robbery, illegal possession of firearms and battery.

Also, he never really suffered from his civil conviction for the murders where he had to pay a large sum to the family members of his ex and her lover, since pensions are protected from this. So he has been living large of his big NFL 'pension' all these years even though he was still young enough for a normal man to be working.

Sure, he was put away in the end - but given ALL that, it's a freaking joke he wasn't in jail already right? Celebs may go to jail in the US, but they need to pull a whole mess of shit to do so. :P

well, a fair number go to jail from time to time, but few get away with murder or pedophilia that I've heard of. Some drug and alcohol abuse here and there.

I don't consider drug and alcohol abuse to be criminal offenses 'an Sich'. ;) In Gibson's case, he only pleaded the alcoholism so he could get out of the whole anti-semite controversy. I'm sure he overdoes the bottle, but that doesn't change the fact that he's an anti-semite...you can pour liters of booze into me and I wouldn't go on a jew-hating rant against a random cop.

Anyway, there are tons of celebs who get away with all kind of crazy battery, assault and illegal use of firearms charges that would put you or me away in a real-life jail for a relatively long time. Almost every hip-hop performer, for one. A douchebag like Fred Durst had to pay a small fine and do 20 hours of community service on the following counts:

- Two counts of assault with a deadly weapon
- Three counts of battery
- One count of criminal threatening
- One count of reckless driving

R. Kelly got away with sex with a minor (14-yr old) even when there was freaking video footage of it. Kobe Bryant got away with rape. Etc.

I guess a lot of them are sentenced to minor prison time too, but still, I find it rather clear that being rich and famous will get you out of situations that any average joe would probably have their life being broken by.
