Might be good to reveal a somewhat shameful secret (for a PC gamer): Pev doesn't even have a steam account.
SHOCK!!

Not shameful in my eyes in the slightest. Whilst I admit last I tried anything to do with Steam was probably 5+ years ago, the experience was so fucking awful I avoid it like the plague.
Having seen some of the comments on recently released games as well that can play without Steam (such as Sacred 2, admittedly with lots of bugs anyway) I really won't bother. As I say, S2 has enough bugs of its own but when Steam can't even release the damn patches for it within a month of everyone getting it, and then actually screw up the patch so it won't even load... I aint going near it.

Actually steam has come a long way since the early years. It's still hardly perfect, but most problems that it gives are very temporary. I have come to like steam a lot (and this is coming from a reformed hater ).
At least it's better than the Microsoft Marketplace stuff.

Yeah I used to hate Steam, but now alot of its general crappyness has gone. It no longer seems to whore-away at my PC's resources... and I have to give it credit for offering a pretty decent purchase & download service, decent prices and even better sales.

I refuse to buy a box'ed game ever again since I now use steam. After all the times I've moved and lost me cds or scratch a disc, or had to wipe out my computer then reload all my games. Now I just load steam and have access to my entire game collection. Plus it saves space so I dont have bunch of boxs laying around. Im also saving the planet, 1 less tree needed to make the box! Pevil is a tree hater!

Lol. Poor Pev.
I still like boxed games, and a nice collector's edition with cool stuff now and then. But by and large, steam has converted me to digital sales, especially for indie games and games I only really play online anyway (TF2 and L4D2 eg).

Also, with CD's, if you've ever tried installing Age Of Empires III including the 2 expansions, you'll feel like you've just been raped. It's that mind numbing. And then you have to have them updated automatically in-game on servers that are seemingly based on 1920's technology.
I've also had a lot of problems with anti piracy software on the CD's / DVD's, like Starforce or some crap. Whereby the game would fail to install.
And then comes Activation Keys. "Please prove to us poor developers and publishers that you didn't steal this game by entering an immensely long and annoying string of numbers and letters".

If a word is pluralized, it ends with an s. If a word is possessive, it ends with an apostrophe s, unless it's plural possessive, in which case it ends with s apostrophe. Some exceptions exist.
Err, sorry, grammar nazi coming out. At any rate, I llike Steam. You know what's cool? Install Steam on a different hard drive, then when you wipe Windows, reinstall Steam to the same location. When you try to install a game whose physical files still exist, Steam just checks them to make sure they're good, then lets you go... ie, a 30 minute install takes 2 minutes. Boxed games don't do that.
On the other hand, when I'm done with a game, I can't give it to the kid across the street. That's pretty crappy.

Like you'd really be handing out games to the Mexican kids across the street like some skinny, psychotic and arled Santa Claus. Besides, I think their mums might take offense about their bringing home your old copies of "Rape Engine IV" and "Granny Shooter Extreme".
Was that spelling remark at Derf?
