I talked to Derf in the meantime. He'd be willing to perhaps join in the deal when we get the 4-pack thing going. Meanwhile, Borderlands is reported to be selling very well, topping the steam charts (in front of Dragon Age and L4D2) and flying off shelves in retail.

We were sent a review copy of Borderlands to check out for the VGAs, and after an hour or so of play I went over to my computer and ordered that Borderlands four-pack. I decided then and there that I wasn't going to deal with any "should I buy it" or "I don't know man" bullshit from potential comrades. I'm just going to drop a Steam code in their laps, and then gesture in the direction of the wasteland. I didn't really understand that the PC version was coming out later than the console iterations, even though it said as much on the screen, so now I've got several days to itch and sweat while console players learn what I already know.

I know they're real busy over at Gearbox, but a demo would go a long way. I suspect that most people won't understand what they've accomplished here, which is to make good on Hellgate's promise in a kind of Weird West milieu. Thief: The Dark Project was sometimes called a "First-Person Looter," though it is even more apt here - God help you when the shakes start, and your awareness narrows to a dark funnel that only slight variations in statistics may penetrate.

I read a sorta-review on Ars Technica and Wired. both were very positive. So yea, it's looking pretty likely I'll be picking this up.

It means you're downloading 99% of the game code already so you can start playing the moment it's released. They let you download the final bit of code and you can start playing right away, instead of having to install/download everything first. :)

Well heres some rain on the parade:

Quote:
Thats it for skills. There are no attributes to speak of other than the different gun proficencies which you get by using the guns. While there is some scope for team builds, you would want to be playing with the same people all the time in order for it to be effective. I've seen a few people who have reached lvl 50 (max lvl) without using any skill points.

Thats the other thing, the game hasn't been out a week and people have already reached max lvl and played through the whole game twice. You only get two play throughs ATM. So after you finish game+ thats it. And even game+ has no added difficulty. So its basically going to be DLC heavy for replayability and I'm saving my DLC budget for DA:O.

Sorry to hear they have delayed released. 2K has really made a mess of the release. There are PC copies being sold before street date and people can't play the game because securom has locked them out until the 26. Got to love the 360, no DRM, no securom BS :P

Well, steam just postponed it for another 4 days, when it was less than 2hours to go.

STEAM Borderlands Delayed Till Release Date: 30 October 2009

OFMG ! Are you Kidding me !
(Count down was down to 1 hour until release, Then Steam pushed release back 4 days).

I think its time I Stopped Buying games through steam

* game was available in stores for purchase this morning.
BUT STEAM WANTS ME TO WAIT 3 Days
* steam Version ended up being $12 more than retail (Exch rate)
BUT STEAM WANTS ME TO WAIT 3 Days
* Steam Support (I'd post a question to them -)
BUT STEAM WANTS ME TO WAIT 3 Days

Well I believe i will go download the Pirated version of Borderlands Just so i have something to Play while i wait on Steam to release my purchased version.

Funny Point: When Steam was 1st released , it offered one of th most effective ways to prevent piracy (games attached to log-ins)
Yet here i am being Driven to Pirate By Steam LoL..

NB. Gearbox stated Release Date was down to Steam...
[I picture a "Glorious New Digital Age" where electronic information can be sent across the world Instantly ,well Plus or Minus 3 Days depending on released date] ...

Hahaha people are really upset about that stunt.

Wasn't it always scheduled for the 31st? I mean, I saw that date for Europe a few times before. Which doesn't take away that steam is ghey for making customers believe that that was the correct date when it wasn't. :( Sucks Peltzmeister.

Sorry for not replying to your minirant on steam earlier btw - I was playing Red Alert 3 in co-op with a friend who is still somewhat new at the game and hasn't played an RTS in a while, so I need to pay attention and pull a lot of weight as his co-commander. He's managed to sell his Construction Yard in one of the earlier missions even. So yeah...I was a little occupied.

On the brightish side...now Borderlands and Dragon Age release almost simultaneously. So you can spend days in agony over which you want to play.

Heh...feel for you man. Well at least a few bugs will be ironed out by the time you get to play it intensively (reports of people losing all XP, levels and gears because of bugs - wtf).
