I meant they're more likely to accept EU type stuff than we are Derf, since the UK seems to love pretending we're still our own little country with nothing to do with anyone else

Yeah, the UK is like that. From a historical point of view it's never been convenient to join the Euro given the strength of the currency (although this is changing). Also, the UK is more ideologically aligned with the US given the anglosaxon and imperial undertones.

The UK will come around eventually I'm sure. I know you dudes are all British and stuff, but I think the political and economic reality is that you need Europe at least as much as it needs you, and that's an understatement.

I read this sentence last week:

'The only thing London is more afraid of than the EU, is a EU that makes decisions and moves on without them'

Which sounds about right, even if it translated pretty poorly. :P The euro...I suppose the UK will keep the pound for a while longer at least. It's not really that much of a deal in these days of digital transactions anyway. And I can come to the UK cheap with my euros, s'all good. ;)

(Btw look at what happened to Ireland recently: bustling economy, high incomes and they start throwing up a fuss about Lissabon and the EU. 4 years down the road, Ireland comes crawling back to the EU after the massive impact of the financial crisis. Hell, even fiercely independent Iceland is making moves towards the Union. It's not the time for flying solo.)

Thanks for all the advice guys. And if I'm coming through the area, I'll probably throw up a post to meet any of you guys we happen to be near. I'm thinking Belgium is a real possibility, since Ox is too much of a pussy to come to the US. So I'd have to see J too. I'm pretty independent though... though I appreciate the offers of hospitality, i'd prefer not to squat in someone's house. I hate to intrude.

As for London, it really is a place I'd like to see at some point. The only negative thing I've heard about England is that the food stinks. Not just British food... apparently British cooks have found ways to ruin food of all nationalities. Or so I've heard.

I think I'm gonna split these posts off and get them out of the pics topic.

Man, I didn't even dare to touch any food when I was in the Uk a few months ago for one day. I know a few very nice places here in Antwerp so if you come down I'll show you around. :P

We were actually looking at taking a trip to Ireland in the semi-near future for about a week. How difficult would it be to hop the water into mainland europe and do some cruising? I know Europe is pretty small (by Texas standards) so a few hours driving/train will get us anywhere, pretty much.

And what places should I see? A few musts.

1. Amsterdam
2. Frankfurt AM
3. Paris
4.... I'm thinking Venice

Anything else that I just shouldn't miss? Maybe London. I hear London would be a nice place if it wasn't for all the Brits.

Fixed. Personally I would like to see Greece and Rome. Buddy of mine was just in Germany for Oktoberfest

Oh, that's awesome. I'd love to go to Munich for Oktoberfest.

Good call on Greece and Rome. I'd actually love to see Moscow and St Petersburg too, though that's a bit of a distance. btw, I've actually been to Amsterdam (twice), but would like to go back to show my chick. It's a singular experience.

Oh, that sucks. I don't even know how to go about getting a visa to enter a foreign country. It's not something us Americans typically have to bother with. Well, whatever... I want to do it eventually, but there are plenty of other places I want to see as well.
