Oh my god I'd buy it just for the fact it has Tim Curry doing a voice!

This is very good news

Quote:
We’re surprised at the omission of real-time fighting – especially when it’s plain to see from the wealth of animations and the visceral nature of scraps that Dragon Age would actually make a helluva hack ‘n’ slasher. Instead, it’s all very much strategic – meaning you’ll have to look after spellcasters by keeping them well away from the nitty gritty, make sure your elven archer types are peppering foes from afar, while your tanks are topped up with health potions and melee boosting spells. A ring-based system for weapon and biotic selections has been neatly implemented when it comes to managing your wealth of spells, tonics and armaments.

It might sound complex, but within minutes we were swapping loadouts on the fly, sending streaks of electricity at the Ogre while casting a spell of Haste on some other chap all the way across the room. Flicking between party members is a cinch too, accomplished in a flash with a tap of a button. Still, we’re not exactly putting our necks on the line when we predict this hands-off approach to combat is going to put off a great many more potential buyers than it attracts – and it’s all the more puzzling when you recall how well recent genre-mashing games like Fallout 3 have done in terms of sales.

Sounds like the nightmare of console kiddies, straight-up traditional BG2 style tactical RPG combat. Derf is gonna take that nod to F3 as a good sign that this game won't be fucked up, I'm sure. :)

F3 was empty, we all know that. Only some of us accept it, I do not :D

Well, if DA uses a NWN feel, I will struggle to pick it up. If on the other hand it goes for a BG kinda thing, thats awesome.

haha...I still like F3, though it could've been better, admittedly. Well, whatever. DA better be awesome. Too bad there's no multiplayer...that's such a huge bummer.

F3 + all the DLC + a bunch of mods = awesome.

And Derf, I have the distinct impression that DA will be more BG2 than NWN 2 with a relatively minimal GUI.

Better be, if it's anything like NWN I won't go near it. So one of you guys better buy it on launch day and give me your opinion! ;)

ahh, I knew I was missing something!

It was bloody gash! The colour and armour were unbelievable! I'd have tea and crumpets rather than play drivel. Pass me the Worcestershire sauce and some fish and chips, you bloody chav! (tm)

"choices" vid for Dragon Age

http://ve3d.ign.com/videos/55884/PC/Dra ... play-Movie

http://ve3d.ign.com/videos/55885/PC/Dra ... play-Movie

The result of the first choice in the first clip is so incredibly badly 'acted'. Your main looks like he walked straight out of the uncanny valley, the voice acting is meh and the lack of facial expression on the 3 bargoers watching you kiss is so devoid of emotion that they all look stunned at what's happening. If this is gonna be what's to come then I'm gonna freaking enjoy being a psychopath to everyone.

The 2nd clip concerned me more. I didn't get a good vibe from the gameplay footage. It just looked and sounded too much like NWN.

Naaah, not imho at least. Ok the dialogue screen looks almost identical but the look and feel of the characters, as well as the actual controls and combat mechanics looked a lot more smoother and less cartoonish. It's a different engine too.

NWN2 was overdosed on bright colors and kiddy feel. (Note that I never played MotB which is supposed to be a much better game/expansions).
