Blizzards next MMO to have a broader appeal (is it even possible?) Still no announcment what type and what genre it will be (and forget release date)

Do you find that WoW has a broad appeal? I mean, yeah, it's got a million billion subscribers so I guess it's ok, but when watching my WoW addict friend playing and seeing the 200 buttons, timed cooldowns, inventory management, speccing and third-party GUI addons I am confused. It hardly seems like the sort of thing unsuspecting housewives and teenage girls (two underrepresented gaming groups) would be lured in by.

But maybe I'm vastly underestimating the social aspect of WoW. Either way, when I hear broader appeal I mostly imagine a game more appealing to less traditonal gaming groups.

Yea but he didnt start out with all those buttons and stuff. I mean for the first 20 levels WoW is as generic, bland, boring yet simple as any MMO out there. And the 3rd party improvements are there for Raids and Battlegrounds, you hardly need them when you are out grinding essences or faction respect.

Anyway...when I hear "broader appeal" I understand "dumbed down", and it's hard to imagine anything more dumbed down than what WoW already is. Horrible. God I hope it flops.

Dont' have that much time to play unfortunately. Yesterday i did the Butcher Bay quest. First time i thought "oh man i'm really getting a beating here". Stupid shamans fearing me. I made it till the end though, but i must admit i needed some potions.

J you did take a henchman with you? You can buy hirelings in DDO, i always have my cleric with me unless its a solo quest, then i have to summon my dog.

I usually solo stuff with my characters, but I get beat down as a result too. :p My cleric hit his level cap... I'm qualified for 5 but still no drop. I'm continuing to accumulate XP, though... I don't know if it'll top out at the end of this rank, of I'll keep accumulating the XP even after that.

I got mine as a reward for a quest in bar at stormreach harbour, the one on the lower left corner on the map.

the wayward lobster? That's shiny's favorite bar. I'm currently redoing all those quests with my character. They're not so hard since I'm level 4 + 4 ranks. Hopefully I'll get a drop soon.

I'm lvl 3 now. No need for henchmen/hirelings in the quests i've been doing. One big exception: i wasn't really paying attention appearantly when accepting a quest, since i suddenly got into an extreme somethingsomething map.

Turned out i had to kill 200 goblins. On my own obviously. Uhm .. what?

Probably gonna need to hire a cleric as well.

That would be Kobold assault. That's fun, but a pretty continual onslaught. Good stuff... it'd be fun with a full party of people just whooping the crap out of kobolds.

With some backup i'd rip through these kobolds.

Btw i'm wondering: how much damage do you do? A kobold warrior for instance goes down really fast against my dwarf, but i imagine it takes a couple of whacks more for you?

at level 3 it takes 3 castings on magic missile (shoots out 2 bolts which do 4dam on average). If we ever team up i can cast blur on you which gives the enemies a 20% of totally missing you.

Anyway, my level 5 cleric one-shots kobolds, but I kinda have 20 strength... 22 with bull's strength cast on me. He's a freakin' monster.

My wizard isn't quite so powerful. At level 4 it probably takes 2-3 hits to kill the average kobold using my attack spells. One or two shots from my heavy crossbow (my wizard has 18 dex).
