You're referring to D3 Peltz?
I'm not sure getting huffy about D3 vs BG3 is sensible. They never were enemies. They offered RPG goodness in 2 different flavours. Granted, Diablo was more accessible but to that there were advantages. You were never dragged into dialogue when you didn't feel like it.
As for the quoted dudes concerns on BG3, they don't really concern me. There's nothing wrong with a bit of old-skool.

The fact someone would say they'd pass up on an in-depth RPG like Dragon Age and wait for a shallow hack-n-slash like Diablo 3 makes me shrug. It's like saying I'd skip The Old Republic and just play Wii Tennis instead... wtf? Apples and Oranges anyone?

Mm, might be a good idea to pre-order
http://www.gamespot.com/pc/rpg/dragonag ... id=6215368
 | | | | Quote: GS: So in terms of Dragon Age's pre-order bonuses, both the regular and collector's edition of the game come with an item that gives 1 percent more experience and one bonus point for characters' skillsets. [All new purchases] also come with the Stone Prisoner extra content, which gives them a stone golem non-player character. Obviously, those are moves to attract more presales of the game and dissuade used game sales.
[...]
GS: The Stone Prisoner sounds like it's going to be a pretty substantial add-on since you're selling it separately for 15 bucks. How big is it going to be?
MD: Well, it's huge. It introduces a whole new character, and this is a character that's as complicated and well fleshed out as any other character in the main game. You're also getting full voice-over and plots and things like that. The Stone Prisoner is going to be offered for free for anyone who purchases any new copy of Dragon Age, collector's edition or not.
GS: So how many hours of playtime does the Stone Prisoner add?
MD: It's kind of hard to quantify that. The way that the character works in Dragon Age is they're along in your party, they're interjecting throughout the game, they're talking with other characters in your party, they're commenting on areas as you visit them. So, in one way, it's 60 hours or 70 hours of content because if you put this character in your party right away, it's going to enrich it and affect your experience throughout the entire game.
GS: And in terms of it being sold separately, it will be DLC on all three platforms.
MD: Correct. | | | | |
Basically: either you pre-order the game and get a whole extra NPC and all that comes with it (which, knowing Bioware and the price of it seperately, is a lot) or spend 15$ on it as a seperate DLC afterwards. Or you don't buy it at all.
Stinks of marketing trap, but since we're all pretty much gonna buy the game regardless anyway I figured I'd give you guys a heads-up and save some cash.

Well i'm not surprised, in fact i am ok with this. Since the choice is really up to you, and there are options available, nothing wrong with collecting some extra $. This is EA after all, if they had their way that DLC would cost 35$/€/£.
It not like it hasn't done before. Total War did this as well, depending where you purchased your copy you got some elite unit with the game.
Besides, down the road there's bound to be a Goty version of the game including the DLCs and adventure packs and the rest of the optional stuff. As long as these additional packages dont fragment the story, i don't really care.

yea, I'm ok with it. I'm still not pre-ordering. I don't trust that the game isn't going to suck.

Yeah, I think that's kind of the point of the "spiritual BG2 successor" thing, that you have a party of vivid characters with their own stories and opinions.

Good. I just saw the word "companion" and panicked a bit.

I think the idea with the companions is that some (all?) of the origin stories have a sort of buddy who never questions their actions. The human noble has his hunting dog or something iirc. Meh we'll see.

Yeah, up to 4 people IIRC. But you could probably play with more people if you do MP...ask Satis, I think he did some MP in it.
NWN 2 was a weird game. I hated the first half, loved the second, then hated the finale again up until the actual final fight. The game was wiiiiildly inconsistent, even after a ton of patches. Rushed job.

Mmm, I was thinking about getting it just there. Back in the day I never even knew it existed because I never even ended up finishing NWN1. D&D became too much a pain in the ass. And given I was playing Morrowind / Oblivion at the time, my RPG needs were fulfilled.
