No i am not being sarcastic, but it has never been a recommended card before as far as i know. But without the release of geforce 300 series or whatever it is the next gen the 200 series prices wont come down.

But i could hunt down a second GTS for SLI but id be better off with a new card.

Furthermore this game is also released on consoles which have a gpu dating back now by 5 or so generations so a recommended 8800GTS came as a somewhat surprise, a 9600gt i would have understood.

Also from the perspective of the developers, they always set somewhat less than the mainstream requirements in order not to limit the customer base so that defenately contributed to my surprise.

Keeping in mind that this game was originally developed for PC (in fact the PC version has already been finished for months) they probably didn't really keep in mind the consoles too much.

The console port will probably just be a really scaled-down 'standard' from the PC game.

We should have more of an opportunity to do that in the upcoming months leading up to Dragon Age's October 20 release date.

The action in those new trailers looks...clunky. Not bad per se, just like a 3D Baldur's Gate with gallons of blood.

not too shabby. looks ok. obviously the uberzoom puts me off a little. the animations arent very synced between slashee and slashor. :) but overall, it seems to be all part of 1 likable image.

I don't think it looks too bad. Sure, there're things that could be better, but overall I think it's fine... in fact, probably a bit better than something I'd expect from a 3rd person isometric. They need to have circles under their feet, though.

Derf you can zoom out, up to the point where it is top down view, similiar to BG, but at the moment they are just showing of the details and stuff which we dont actually care about since the whole deal and especially the story and interaction are important.

In this video you can see the zoom being used but im not sure if thats the max.

Yeah, looks ok. But it still pains me somewhat. Let me try and articulate this...

Back in the day, the screen res was low and graphics mostly 2d. If you wanted to check your inventory, dick about with spells or attack something, you simply pointed and clicked with relative ease. Menu options were closeby and not being graphically enhanced, they were snappy. Click, click, done.

Today, screen res is comparatively massive and graphics are mostly 3d with all sorts of AA, bloom, filters, etc. So to do something relatively simple, the effort to do it is inevitably increased. The mouse travel is increased, icons are smaller, you need to wait for animations to finish, you have to drag shit, rotate view, etc.

Meh, i was heavily into Usability at university, so im particularly anal about this. /rantover

no, I understand your point. Doing web design, the UI part is the most important part over the thing actually working. In fact, people can perceive an app is broken even when it isn't if your UI is poor enough. So anyway, yea, I hear you. Building a good UI is possible regardless...having not played the game yet I can't say if they managed it. But just a simple thing like 'hold down alt for mouse movement to move the camera' can make things far easier.

During the course of the game, players are able to visit a brothel where a hostess asks what they are interested in. If players select "Surprise me," they can sometimes wind up face-to-face with a woman, a man, a transsexual, or an animal; sexual activity is never depicted during these brothel encounters.

Uhm...what? I mean, as a joke, ok, but why would you advertise this as a 'feature'?

Quote:
Players will start their adventure in one of the following roles:

1. Dalish Elf: As one of the last "true elves", you were content to spend your life wandering with your clan...until a chance encounter with a relic of your people's past threatens to tear you away from everything you've known.

2. City Elf: You have always lived under the heavy thumb of your human overlords, but when a local lord claiming his "privilege" with the bride shatters your wedding day, the simmering racial tensions explode in a rain of vengeance.

3. Dwarf Commoner: Born casteless in a land where rank is everything, bound as the lackey and thug of a local crime lord, you have spent your life invisible...until chance thrusts you into the spotlight, where you can finally prove whether you will be defined by your actions or your birth.

4. Dwarf Noble: The favored child of the dwarven king, you proudly take up your first military command...only to learn that the deadly intrigues of dwarven politics pose an even greater danger than that faced on the battlefield.

5. Mage: Gifted with a power considered a dangerous curse by most, you have spent most of your life secluded in the remote tower of the Circle of Magi to be trained and watched closely by the dreaded templars. Now your final test is upon you -- succeed and prove your strength, fail and you will perish.

6. Human Noble: Born to wealth and power second only to royalty, you find your training in both diplomacy and war put to the test when your father's castle is betrayed from within on the very night your elder brother is to lead the family's forces to war.

I know what I'll choose as my background already.

While Ox may have found a pretty suitable match for himself, I'm not too sure about what I could pick... hmmm...

Can't there be just a normal humble human? :)

Derf, no normal human, apparently there's some controversy about it on the forum. David Gaider, Bioware dude, said:

Quote:

As for the Human Commoner, you're not getting one. If we ever did start work on a new origin story as part of DLC, I'm not sure how that would work. Even if we were able to restore what bits used to exist, I'm not sure we would want them -- like I've said previously, it wasn't working. I know some people are of the opinion that anything that was cut ever is somehow their rightful due and should be restored instantly to the end product for free lest it be considered a rip-off... but if we ever DID undertake the overhaul that would be needed to add an origin story, it would NOT be as easy as flipping a switch. It would be far, far, far from flipping a switch. This idea some people might have of us carefully excising a part of the game just to sell it back to you later is entertaining, but without merit.

You are free to think what you like, of course -- as if we could stop you -- but running around griping about how things that are cut from the game during development are somehow being used to rip you off is a bit reactionary. Here's to being pleasantly surprised, I guess.
