Well our flagship, admiral pitka, is actually an old Danish ship. Our latest mine hunters were recently purchased from the brits. In fact, the commander of the illustrious actually served on one of them.
So we just buy ships that larger european countries find too expensive to utilise. As for mines around here, expected to last for another hundred years, kinda makes you wonder how many tons of explosives surrounded by metal did the sink here.

Well, I got the collared shirt thing down but that's it...the slacks, I dunno. I thought that was 'passé'. What's the fucking difference anyway? A nice pair of jeans looks just as good and costs as much as slacks. It's one of those social oddities that I can never seem to get over.
To make a parallel: it's kinda like women in bikinis and bras. On a beach it's perfectly acceptable for a woman to wear a bikini top (which is often 'skimpier' than a bra), sometimes even to walk around in it around the beach front. Nobody makes a big deal out of it. But a woman in a bra in a non-beach situation, OH GOD NO THE TABOO. God forbid that anyone who is not a partner, close (female) friend or family member ever see a woman in her bra. Bikini or bra, it's essentially the same frakking piece of clothing in a different social situation. It's some sort of cognitive wardrobe dissonance.
I just don't get it I guess. I'm perfectly willing to dress well/better for a social occasion that demands it, I don't advocate walking around in potato sacks or dirty t-shirts and short shorts, but some of those rules are just...pointless. I can't bring myself to follow them.
This all probably ties in with my lack of job application success (too straightforward), lack of current gf (idem) or career progress (because of excessive personal pride). I'd find a way to swallow my pride and become normal, but then I'd see that as bending over too and hence the vicious circle drones on. One good girl would make a lot of difference. Too bad they're rather scarce.

so you're saying you need a girlfriend to civilize you? Re: the jeans, the point is that jeans are not business casual. How they look has nothing to do with it. It's the same reason you wear a bowtie with a coat and tails. Not that you'd know anything about that.
@Peltz... still sweeping mines? From WWII? Or were they laid during the cold war?

Ox if the reasoning if the cost of something counted, I would wear nothing but sexy little things, but I know they are not appropriate for work, plus satis would flip out and kill everyone. Poor guy. He did make it through the star wars party with half of my boobs hanging out almost all the party. He is only a little bitter.
As for swim wear versus bra. Well, I would expect less clothing at a beach seeing how clothing weights you down in water. As for going down the street, well, I was known for wearing some skimpy (yet tasteful) outfits when I was thin and cuter. But, I would be horrified for someone my size even to run around in only a bra. To much jiggly!
And I dunno about being surrounded by mines, that'd make me nervous. To many idiots.
Oh and guys look hot if they can rock a suit. Like yummy hot. I like guys (obviously) with long hair and concert t-shirts, but when they clean up for something special - it's hard to keep your hands off for the difference.
And as for females civilizing - well all chicks I know buy clothing for their guys. Think about maybe why that is?

They are from WW2. We have the danes, brits, swedes and finns come over and then throw mine hunting parties (read mine sweeping excercises). Every time they find quite a few of them, and the other nations they like to come visit us since these are the real deal, no "oops" allowed or kiss your ass goodbye.

that's just crazy there are still mines out there from 60+ years ago. Wait till the next big war... people'll be building cities and starting religious cults around unexploded nuclear bombs or something.

Satis, pretty much the entire of Europe is still peppered with explosives from WW I and II. Some areas more than the others but still. Around here they still find one unexploded device every other month or so, usually in fields and construction sites.
I guess the consensus is that I should get a suit then. Maybe, if it's not too expensive. Man. All these social rules. Why can't I just be a rich and eccentric recluse? (answer: because that plan would likely involve some hairless filipino boys and a whole lotta blow)

Haha Ox, tough luck That's why I like being a woman (rarely ); throw on some black trousers and a blouse and I'm dressed for an interview. Easy.
That pram is awesome, if I am ever unlucky enough to have kids I want it!

I think it was in germany a few weeks or months ago when the construction workers uncovered a WW2 era bomb that could have leveled an entire city block, one of the more nastier air dropped bombs.

So my sailing trip to Finland. It took us 8h to get there and 7h back thanks to the wind conditions. On our way there we did about 6,5 to 7,2 knots and on our way back we did about 7,5 to 8,2 knots. The weather conditions were perfect we saw lightning, rain, sunshine, perfect calm, two large rainbows, a cargo ship that gave us safe passage and a waterspout ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waterspout) which was roughly 10 miles from us. I had never seen one so close but i had seen one before.
All in all i actually managed to enjoy the trip because usually people fail to understand that for me this is work, 8-10h of pure work. They just sing and drink and have fun but for me its just work because should something happen im the one whose hands will be cuffed
I'll post 3 pictures which i had to scale down. The first two will be of me, and the 3rd one will be the sailing yacht. The yacht itself is a A class yacht which means that it is equipped and built to sail across oceans but we haven't gotten around to that yet. Should you ever visit me in Tallinn we'll see if i can take you out on the bay with it. Enjoy.

Cool pics! You have the same face as your father, too.
Do you do it as a tourist service or something? Because you said it's work and you are responsible.
I used to sail btw - not boats like that but smaller boats. I used to be able to prepare and take down an entire boat, installing all the ropes and putting up the sail etc., and of course steering it. So I can imagine how much work it can be.
