Dude, you dont know x-com?? And you dare call yourself a gamer. Its probably one of the most annoying yet fun strategy game of the '90s. It is a sequel to the X-com: UFO Defence.

You start off with choosing a base of operations on the planet earth, in water. You then start researching weapons and gear and hunt aliens in tactical missions. Theres the downed/landed sub mission, theres the terror site, then theres the attack on a cruise ship, theres the alien activity mission (essentially like a base but a whole lot smaller yet as dangerous) and finally theres the base mission.

This game is fantastically frustrating if you are not careful. You can save the game in missions and i used to do that but now im going through with it by saving only when i exit the game. I have lost a sub and 10 men (who got wtfpwn'd by two lobster men). Unlike the Apocalypse, the first and second games have mind control which is very annoying but with some planning it can be overcome and eventually turned around and used on the aliens.

The game is very simple yet so frustrating and addictive.

I never played terror from the deep (I thought it looked kinda lame after the cool Mars pwnage from the first game) but I was ADDICTED to the original Xcom. Apocalypse is good in its own way too.. the ability to do real-time play was awesome... I wish they'd kept cranking out sequels like EA does with Madden.

Yea the original xcom is charming, no arguing there, but the TFTD is like the evil twin. It is the same game with a graphical overhaul but its a bit more difficult and i really like the underwater setting. I truly believe that TFTD should have been the first xcom but oh well, cant have everything.

Terror from the deep was/is a frustrating experience, as Peltz said. But that shouldn't stop anyone ever from playing X-com. lol @ losing an entire sub to lobster men. That's just harsh Peltz. Do you have any veterans who survived through the entire game so far though? By sheer luck? :P

Yea, Tom King, he's an old timer, but not from the initial starting squad, they are all dead but then again they are not meant to survive. They were dead from the moment i pressed New Game. People start surviving once the floating armor is developed and they can no longer be grenaded to the afterlife.

Later ofcourse is the biggest threat that alien guided rocket launcher but there are ways to reduce the risk of losing men to that aswell.
