Post Men Of War
I got this on Ox's reccommendation and it's based on the "Soldiers" engine, which I really really liked.

As far as I can tell its a commandos esque WW2 tactical strategy.

I reckon im gonna love it but I need to sleep now.

Video @ gamespot. The narrator (voice actor) is really bad.

played another hour and im liking it.

yes, the voice acting is pretty bad, but that always used to be the case with Sudden Strike and such. You only hear the voice acting during briefings anyway.

I like how you can search bodies and pick different weapons and stuff.

I don't think however that the features of each weapon is being milked to its fullest. Take the MG for example, there doesnt seem to be a way of targetting general areas to rain fire nor is there a kind of overwatch function. Or the tank. There seems to be no way of commanding it to fire MG only, instead of main gun + MG.

It is practically identical to Soldiers, which isnt a bad thing in my eyes.

One thing that I will desperately try and ramp up is the field of vision of enemies and range of weapons. An enemy has a pretty shitty field of view, probably 20 meters in front of him and that's it. This makes it too easy to "sneak" around and get in close. As a result, taking cover is less important because dropping out of sight is so easy.

:) Nice to see that you took me up on my suggestion man! Yeah, I thought you'd like the game. It's pretty epic and brutal (and really hard at times).

Some more vids:

Yeah, the game has some flaws being from a small Eastern-European developer, but it's sheer epicness, depth and destruction (they're big on that) make up for it. :)

Looks nice.

I do own the Soldiers: Heroes of World War II but i failed to finish it, probably because of some other game came along.

last night i finished the 1st soviet mission and was amazed at the scale of the 2nd one. Unforunately its kind of weird because you have to occupy 95% of the map for hte entire time otherwise you fail. It would be perfect if you would have been given some ground to choose from.

This is what i found in the gamespot review.
Quote:
While driving a tank, you can alternate between machine gun and main gun firing modes at will

EDIT: after reading some more it seems that the AI commands the one you are not using.

Yeah, you can switch to MG, but for some reason it will still use its main gun.

I tried a sneaky yank mission which was ok, but not great. You only have 4 dudes. I cant wait to play a large scale yank mission. The soviets are ok, but yanks I can seem myself drooling over the weapons i know much more. Like .30 cal, BAR, Garand...

Damn game.co.uk. They caused an unnecessary delay.

07/05/2009 Your order has been dispatched.
05/05/2009 Your order is currently being picked and packed.
05/05/2009 Your credit/ debit card has been authorised and your order is now being released for packing.
Funds will not be debited until your order is shipped.
04/05/2009 Your order is held for credit checking.
04/05/2009 Your order is waiting for authorisation and release for packing.

It took them two days to gather 3 products and now the shipment will arrive either on the weekend (when they dont send out packages) or on Monday which means it is available on Tuesday. Lazy bastards.

Quote:
Orders received at GAME before 1pm (Mon to Fri) for immediately available products will normally be shipped that day

Ye right.

Indeed, but we'll need 5 pounds of explosives, assault rifles and lots of bubble gum.

Or are you thinking of a different way?
