looks promising. When this comes out I'll probably pick it up to keep me engaged for a few weeks. :D

*casts resurrection*

So, I got the "remake" (it's the polished version of Escape from Butcher Bay + another, new, campaign called Assault on Dark Athena) during a steam sale for 3.5 € some time ago.

I just finished Escape from Butcher Bay and shiiit that game is tight! Graphics were still good, music & atmosphere amazing, Diesel's voice acting as Riddick tickled my funbone ("You afraid of the dark? I'm not. The dark is afraid of me."), and there's a lot of variation...melee fighting, gunfighting, riding robots, stealthing, Indiana Jonesing along rails and edges, prison dynamics (buying shivs, drugs, fistfights)...the three different levels of security (Max, Double Max and Cold Storage) also added to the variety.

Game could be incredibly tough at times, but almost always a challenge instead of becoming frustrating. Loved it, and happy that I remembered Satis liking it so much a long time ago or I probably wouldn't have picked it up. :)

Those first few seconds you're in a Riot Guard suit...FUCK YEAH. You just spent a long time fighting with nothing but your hands and/or club, stealthing along shit and then you turn the tables. Glorious.

(and the dynamic between Johns the bounty hunter and Riddick is cool too)

Glad you liked it. I think that's one of those great sleeper hits that everyone should play, but few people do.

Yeah, it's by miles the best movie franchise game I have ever played, and just a great game by an sort of standard. If it's ever back on a sale at 5€ or less, anyone vaguely interested should put some cash down on it.

Currently playing the new chapter, Assault on Dark Athena. About an hour in and enjoying myself. I'll let you know how it stands up against Escape from Butcher Bay...I wouldn't advise buying it right now (it's at 20$) but might be a good buy for you once it goes down again. :)

Ok, if you're gonna buy Assault on Dark Athena just for that (and not the polished version of Escape From Butcher Bay) I'd advise against it.

It's definitely not a bad game, but just not as good as EFBB. It has less atmosphere/character than EFBB and is more about gunplay than anything else, which is bizarre given that one of the strengths of EFBB was the mix of stealth/melee and the occasional Rambo-style rampages.

Other than that it's still gritty, dark SF action with powerhouse vocal work from Diesel as Riddick, has a decent length and some cool sequences (mech/drone rides, sweet guns) and doesn't disappoint. It's just not that great. There are some story elements but they're so limited that it makes the game feel like a corridor shooter at times.

I'd rate it as a 7 if you like the Riddick franchise (as I do). Worth picking up on the cheap if you feel like playing as Riddick, otherwise not so much.
