Just seen Defiance.

It's good. I like it. It works. It's got its own little flavour. It gets a 8/10 from me, and trust me not many films get that.

Link to Defiance http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1034303/. I saw some ads for this movie but figured it'd suck. Thanks for telling me otherwise.

I'll probably go see it too at some point, looks interesting enough. I remember Derf telling me about it when we were kicking ass in CS: Source. Derf did some pwning and I knifed a few losers, before we moved on to dual para/mac 10 rushing. Good times. :)

It's funny how even after long breaks from the game you don't really lose all that much skill. Sure, you lose the edge that makes a difference when playing against really good players, or that made you rock the desert eagle HS pwnage, but for most random servers? Heck, I usually even end top 2 in my team while going fantasy bananas with crappy weapons, crazy knife attempts and kamikaze rushes.

Dunno if it says more about our collective built-up skill or their lack of it. Probably the latter. :?

oh, btw, watched Defiance and it really wasn't too bad. Not pure gold or anything, but it was good enough to be entertaining. Certainly worth a look.

Saw a few other movies recently

Madagascar - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0351283/ - sucked
Madagascar 2 - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0479952/ - sucked worse.
Igor - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0465502/ - sucked less but still sucked

Yea, bit of an animated movie kick I guess. Igor started out strong but quickly spiraled into suck.

So we watched RocknRolla http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1032755/
Pretty typical Guy Ritchie movie. If you've seen Snatch, you'll know what this movie is like. That's not a condemnation... it's still fun. I'd rate it as decent to good, worth watching once but probably not to be seen again.

Saw 'Watchmen' in premiere last night, and really enjoyed it. It isn't perfect - in his attempt to stay true to the (monumental) graphic novel Snyder sometimes overdoes it - but a remarkable piece of cinema regardless.

Visually overwhelming, with well-rounded characters, heavy symbolism and serious morality questions, it's unlike any movie you've ever seen.

I saw it with a friend who didn't know the graphic novel (apart from a broad outline by me beforehand) and he said the movie felt a little unhinged and that some scenes could have been omitted or reduced, but overall he really enjoyed it too.

Make sure you check it out. I don't think you'll be disappointed. An action movie that isn't an action movie about superheroes who aren't actual superheroes (except for one). Sounds cool, right? :)

I don't like superhero comics and their movie spin-offs. Except for the recent Batman ones, those are just too well executed not to love.

Arathorn, Watchmen isn't really about superheroes. In fact, apart from one character, nobody possesses any real superhuman 'powers'. They're more vigilantes than anything else. :) I really liked the last Batman movie too (and Batman Begins was ok as well), and this one is at least on par and poses much bigger questions about morality and 'the human condition' than Batman ever will. It's pretty nifty.

Apparently women dislike the movie, judging by the few female opinions I've heard. Did you read the comic btw Satis?

No, I didn't. I think that'll be in my favor. :P I may read the comic afterward some time. Though I'd prefer it in book form.

Saw Start Trek. Nice movie. Not too geeky, not too dramatic, plenty of space action. It was better than i expected.

I'm watching it now. Pretty good indeed. I was never a fan of the original series, so this is a nice surprise.

I watched ... forgot what its called.... the one with Ben Affleck as the Congressman and "the Gladiator" as a journalist.

It was ok. I didnt' keep up with it to be honest, but it kept me interested throughout.

I thought the turn of theme at the end was not the best course for the film. It was rather anticlimactic.
