lol @ ox's musical tastes.

On a different tip, Nine Inch Nails had a "leak" of about 400GB of HD footage from their tour (the one Shiny and I saw in Dallas, and then again in New Orleans). Trent's awesome.... whereas most labels would be suing and screaming and crying he's probably the source of the "leak".

1.7.09: your gift!
The internet is full of surprises these days.
I was contacted by a mysterious, shadowy group of subversives who SOMEHOW managed to film a substantial amount (over 400 GB!) of raw, unedited HD footage from three separate complete shows of our Lights in the Sky tour. Security must have been lacking at these shows because the quality of the footage is excellent.

If any of you could find a LINK to that footage I'll bet some enterprising fans could assemble something pretty cool.

Oh yeah, you didn't hear this from me.

Haha, you think that's bad taste? I'm going to see Dragonforce in concert at the end of the month... :P

http://nl.youtube.com/watch?v=pceb2h9iKIk
http://nl.youtube.com/watch?v=VEESPSMxa ... re=related

Them guys sure know how to play guitars...and they're self-confessed nerds (cfr old-school video gaming in the second vid). It's fun. :)

The older I get, the less I feel the need to listen/watch the standard "waaargh we're all gonna die!" metal, I guess that's the angst ebbing away. Don't get me wrong, I know that most metal bands don't take themselves too seriously...but they rarely let that shine through in their music. So it amounts to the same. In a way, once you lost that rage that drove you on in the early days of your career your music needs to either evolve or stagnate. That's why 40-yr old punkers are usually pathetic (they lost their ideals because they grew up), why rappers tend to decline rapidly after their first two albums (they're no longer in the ghetto and filthy rich), etc.

That's also the reason why I respect Reznor a lot. I don't like everything he's ever done, by any measure. But he never seems to have compromised and just did what he felt he should do. I think he even did the backing vocals on a Tori Amos song or album. Tori Amos is pretty awesome but still...not what you'd expect from someone with Reznor's background, right? :) And it was his initiative, after hearing her CD and liking it a lot.

There are only a handful of artists I know that make music that, even after 20+ years, still seems to be heartfelt and 'true'.

EDIT: this is the video for the Amos song Trent sings backing/duet vocals on

Weird, I didn't know Trent did backing vocals for that song. Not a big Tori Amos fan, but I've heard the song before.

I'm a big fan of skinny puppy...they've been around since the early 80s. But their sound has changed pretty drastically over the years.

Smothered Hope (early 80s)
Pro-test (2007)

There are few other bands that I like that've lasted more than 10 years. :(

One of my favorite artists of all time: Buck 65. But I wouldn't blame any of you if you think he sucks tho, he has a very peculiar style. :) He's more of a word artist than a musician really.

Blood of a young wolf (it's a slideshow of some crappy car, but the music quality is good)

pants on fire (quality isn't great but it's the only non-censured version of the song I can find on the tube)

Quote:
In front of my face, you spoke my gospel like an apostle
But on the other side of town, you got coke in your nostril
Just for example, we all want to live a bit
Whatever, it's your body of water, why should I give a shit

Who are you anyway, and where did you come from
Dumb, dumb, just when I thought I could trust someone
The mask comes off, and your face fades away
You radiate eighty-eight full shades of gray

Black and white rainbow, you know you ain't acting right
Game show hostess, stabbing every back in sight
The time has come to thicken the blood
And make no mistake, I'm a stick in the mud
I'm a kick in your pants and I'm a lump in your throat
And I'm the hassle in your castle, I'm going to jump in your moat
Splash, hypocritical condition the hospital
Makes this mission impossible
Pretty much, I've got no patients left and as a physician or doctor
It puts me in an awkward position
No magician can trick me, or lick me with a cattle whip
So what makes you think you can sink my battleship
We ain't family, drama queen, the camera's rolling
Show me your swollen mammaries before the moment's stolen
Slow-motion Picasso, wearing the wool socks
And coming with the full clip, I'm sick of this bullshit

Who are you anyway, and where did you come from
Dumdum, just when I thought I could trust someone
The mask comes off, and your face fades away
You radiate eighty-eight full shades of gray

Awesome :)

Have you tried Pandora? I've found a lot of good music via them.

I'm on Last.fm. Works quite similarly to Pandora I believe.

poor Pandora. They were awesome, so the music industry killed them. Well, practically. Stupid royalty licensing rates.

What's with all this being blocked? I blame the music industry again. Might as well, bunch of bastads. I thought the point of the internet was the lack of borders. Blah.

It started about a year ago...suddenly, all sorts of youtube vids became "forbidden to watch" because i didn't live in the 'right area', wherever the hell that may be. In this case the US.

Makes you want to leave society and technology behind, move to a barn in the country and start bombing university buildings and airliners, right?
