Post Forgotten games you loved
Title says it all: which game did you adore that has largely been forgotten by the general audience? Can be any sort of game(s). :)

I was thinking about Dark Earth a while ago, an action/adventure set on a post-post-post-apocalyptic Earth suffering from a mysterious disease (you end up being afflicted by it). Fighting is mostly restricted to melee, there are a few antique weapons you can find but since technology and ammo is pretty much completely lost they're very scarce.

The game was set in beautifully rendered backgrounds with believable characters, nice combat and a great storyline. And the atmosphere...so good. Light was an extremely rare and important aspect of the world which was largely covered in thick dust clouds. The lower you got in the city, the darker things got.

Did anyone ever play this game? :) It's PC gaming bronze age tho (stone age being ultima and lands of lore etc :P )

xcom, but it's not all that forgotten.

Then there are various games I loved in the late 80s.

F19 Stealth Fighter I played the piss out of this game, pwning Soviets and saving the world for democracy. It was basically a flight simulator... you flew around and blew up crap in Russia, Iran, Europe, whatever.

M1 Tank Platoon. This one put you in an M1 tank in Europe during a Russian invasion. Great fun. It even incorporated some RPG elements... as your guys survived missions they would improve in their skills, allowing them to shoot and reload faster or drive more accurately or whatever. I played this one heavily as well.

I can't think of much more off the top of my head. If it's not obvious, I was pretty heavily into simulation games at that point in my life.

The golden Micropose war sim games! :) I wasn't a huge fan, but I did play M1 tank platoon for a while (and its sequel for a longer time). any sim or civ game that has been touched by Sid Meier is almost by definition awesome. ;)


How about Solar Winds? If you can ever get it running on windows (it's pretty easy with doxbox th)

You will be flying a ship that has the capacity to fire lasers and missiles. The stronger missiles take longer to fire but they are so powerful that it can even destroy Jack's own ship if you make the mistake of flying into its path.

The graphics and the sounds of the game are all average. They do bring you back in time. They don't affect the enjoyment you can get out of the game so the old school graphics and sounds shouldn't be cause for bother.

Overall this is a great futuristic shooter game. It's action-packed and fast-paced and offers countless hours of gaming fun. The game also has good replay value so you can store this game for a long time in your hard drive so you can keep coming back to it. I suggest you download it now and give it a try. There is also a sequel to the game names Solar Winds 2.

Nope, never played that.

I know I played Wing Commander...probably the original. That was fun but I think I might have only had the demo. :roll: How about the old Sierra games?

King's Quest
Space Quest
Leisure Suit Larry
Police Quest

Those were the big ones. They slipped into crappiness pretty quick, but there was a time when the games rocked.

And Sid Meier's Pirates...the original one. I lost many an hour to that thing.

I've played a lot of King's Quest in my time, great games though the earlier ones had an annoying twitch factor from time to time.

I never was much into the whole 'quest' series by Sierra, but I heard the (spiritual) successor to the king's quest series, King's Bounty, is very good.

And Leisure Suit Larry...of course. :) I played them all, from 'in the land of the lounge lizards' to love for sail. I passed on the Magna Cum Laude series, obviously. It's just not the same. Not half as funny anymore. :(

Haha, yeah, and it used voxel technology! It's become quite the cult classic, even if the company itself has since bankrupted :(


I loved the Crusader games! And Dune 2! Fremen ftw :)

Did you like JA 1 better than 2 Peltz? Just wondering

Well in a way yes, it was new and interesting at the time, it was like xcom only in a more down-to-earth way. JA2 felt a bit like i had already seen it but that didnt stop me from putting hours of time in it.

There was also a game called sub culture, i even have the original disc on my shelf. Now that was one helluva game, i havent seen anything like it since.

Dude this thread is bringing back memories. Thanks for that Crusader trailer Peltz, that's goddamned awesome. :twisted:

Derf, that game's name sounds a bit queery but after watching the video it looks pretty awesome. What year is it from? Like Peltz said, it looks like the older Ultimas on visual crack.

There was some game I spent a lot of time on in the early 90s, but I forget the name. :( It was similar to Xcom in that you controlled a squad, but it was set in the future with corporations warring or something. I just remember moving my troops around and blowing all kinds of crap up. Can't for the life of me remember the name, though.
