 Disabling Direct3d in Vista.
Can anyone help, google failed me. Vista really sucks for gaming, Dx 10+ or not, whats the point of graphical goodies if the games fail to run as they should.
Edit: i forgot to mention that there are no disable buttons in dxdiag.

It wouldn't surprise me if it was impossible to disable it. After a search I got it that many people had the same problem.
This might be of interest (although the guy doesn't speak of vista nor of DX10). A weird solution a guy used:

But there is always the way you suggest peltz: "Just remove Vista and that small thing will be instantly disabled."

Why are you trying to disable direct3d? You mean just on the desktop?
If I'm not mistaken, Aero is the only desktop that uses 3d acceleration... presumably if you use something other than aero, you won't be running d3d on the desktop.
Disabling it completely is probably impossible.

Honestly, I've had nothing to moan about where Vista is concerned, what problems are you having?

It sounds to me like he mentions gaming.

You see the problem is that inorder to run IWD2 without considerable lag, the D3d has to be disabled. It is easy on XP you just run dxdiag and click disable and voila IWD2 runs like race horse. Try running it with D3d enabled and it will perform like dragging a dead horse.
Dx10 was supposed to fix this but apparently someone fucked up and the problem remains.

Oh, interesting. Ok...sorry I can't be of help, I still don't have a single pc running Vista. If I run across something by chance I'll post back.

One more thing for which OpenGL is golden. You can run it on sole CPU when no hardware acceleration is provided, and even you control how that will happen.
Vista is evil. And DX10 even more for forcing its usage.
