 The Force Unleashed (xbox 360)
Well, it's out today. I was checking out all the reviews that came flooding out yesterday and they seem to roughly agree... great idea, decent story, ok game play... though the ratings seem to vary from between 50-90 depending on the site. The fact it doesn't completely blow means I'll be getting it today (probably). Unfortunately one review mentioned the part where you rip a star destroyer out of the sky is like the worst part of the game because the controls suck nuts. I can't even look forward to a patch making it better if it's on a console. Oh well... I've been replaying Jedi Academy for the last 2 weeks. I'm ready to tear some higher-definition stormies up.

Heh...I read about the hype on this game. What is it with console titles (often) slightly disappointing? They seem to be built up in marketing campaigns a lot more than pc titles...the only big console titles I can remember being a smash hit with no reserves are the Halo series, GTA series and Mass Effect. Basically. All the others were "good but not what we expected".

360 has patches...
But they'll never fix it

I'm playing the game now. They really don't give you a whole lot of training right out the door... I had to just randomly mash buttons with Darth trying to figure out what does what. Oh well, whatever, it's fun. Obviously I haven't gotten very far...I played for maybe an hour last night before having to go to bed. No bugs so far and the camera that all the reviews are bitching about hasn't ass-raped me yet. I'm sure it's a matter of time.

actually Halo 2 and 3 are both mixed reviews (still generally much loved though) But yeah I totally agree; console games are all "zomg we're awesome, buy us!!!! ... ok you found out, I'm all graphics and nothing else" whereas pc games are either "omg i suck, i'll hide in this corner" or "omg I'm pretty cool... I'll keep quiet and just look alluring"
errrr anyway not a huge star wars fan but we got star wars DS stylus' in today to go with the whole Unleashed game... they're such cheap, crappy looking things lol. Oh, and collectable figures, like pokemon cards, but figures You get '1 huge' and '5 miniatures' in each pack... we were pissing ourselves laughing at the description of one huge in each pack.

I want I want I want
Stupid consoles....
Btw Caz, can you use your uber authority at GAME and tell them to stop stuffing the PC games into like 1 small shelf while spamming the store with console games? Thanks

lol...I'm sure she'll get right on that.
Regarding the game, it's pretty fun most of the time. The camera's retarded, it's true. And even though the menu has 'save', it doesn't.... it's like a checkpoint system. So...I like loaded into this place... killed this boss first try... then fell off the edge trying to get onto a bridge.
reloaded.... got killed by the boss
reloaded... got killed by the boss
reloaded... got killed by the boss
reloaded... killed the boss, fell off the edge of the bridge again
reloaded... got killed by the boss
quit the game for awhile
reloaded... killed the boss, didn't fall of the bridge, got the save point right after.
Slightly annoying. I tried manually saving it once, but it didn't do anything (as mentioned above). And the menus suck. And this is the first game i've ever played where the menus have loading screens. Loading screens in the menu? WTF?!
Overall though it's fun. It's pretty wildly destructive and the environmental interaction is pretty cool. On Felucia (the mushroom planet) you can do a force push type thing and all the flowers/mushrooms react to it. Very immersive. And it's fun as shit to throw stormtroopers around.

You just described two of the biggest shortcomings of console games: crappy menu's and (more importantly) a save point system. Argh. A good game doesn't need a save point system - period. Well, it can be used alongside a free saving function, obviously.
But independently it's just a lame way of prolonging the lifespan of a game. Imagine BG2 with save points. 500 hours of gameplay!
But errhh, good to hear it's fun though. Does it feel like you're using a variation of the HL2 super gravity gun when you're throwing stuff around? I'm just wondering.

Well, a little bit. I get some definite flashes of the gravity gun, but it's like gravity gun x 10. Part of the gameplay involves smashing open doors and stuff... that's pretty cool. And you can bend metal (some of it). There are still limitations, of course, but it's pretty neat.
oh. and even though I like the graphics, they're really not THAT impressive. Is it me, or are a lot of xbox360 games just kinda grainy?

Xbox 360 can't handle AA very well, that's probably what you're seeing.

Consoles suck at graphics but thusfar, xbox runs a bit higher AA than ps3, since it has ati gpu which can handle AA better but in comparison the newest gpus have nearly ten times the power.
Edit: on paper that is.

yea... a modern pc omgwtfpwns a console. Still, if nothing else, at least it's making gaming acceptable and mainstream. I don't get weird looks when I tell people I'm a gamer any more.

Unfortunately, the only way to do that is to make the customers buy lots of pc games Wall space is based on how popular the format is
