did you read the newspost they wrote alongside? Pretty good too.
I love Tycho's verbose writing.

hehe, yea, I read that as well. His writing can be very entertaining sometimes. Other times it can be overly verbose and boring, but hey, you win some, you lose some.

Due to Sat's limitations I had to zip this one. Bearable, I think it is worth unzipping. The original will reside here for some time I guess:

Google's automated news bot picked up a 2002 story about United Airlines filing for bankruptcy. There was a missing date or something, so Google showed it as current news even though it was 6 years old.
As a result, news aggregators picked it, and eventually it triggered a massive sell off of United Airlines stock. Their stock when from $12 a share to $3 a share, losing $1.14billion dollars. It's now back up to $9.62... hilarious.

But I found it:

(I won't subscribe to read the full article, I refuse! Satis promotes pay sites, free ad in the funny stuff thread yay!)

I'd post it in LHC thread, but there might be people with heart problems.
*edit*
Heh... note the time I posted on. It was a round hour. There's got to be something about this.

lol. I'm pretty sure a black hole would swallow mass at a much faster rate than that, but still: good stuff.

weird, sorry about the link. It was the full article in print format.. oh well, whatever.
And actually Ox, a small enough black hole could take awhile to kill us all... if it was say atomic sized, it would just gobble up protons and such for awhile, then atoms...then molecules.... etc. Plus, because of gravity it would probably fall into the earth's core so it might get fairly large before it started destroying the world in a noticeable fashion.
That's ignoring Hawking radiation, of course. An atom-sized black hole wouldn't last long enough to do any damage.

Yeah, I read about that. I did wonder just how long "a while" would be though. If it took 50 years to consume the earth from the inside out then I couldn't care less about it really. I'd probably prefer to die by being sucked into a black hole at age 76 than cancer or some shit. Those few moments where you get so close to the supermassive core (before you get spaghettified, that is) that you can actually see it with your own eyes must pwn.
So, any idea?
On another note, why wouldn't the black hole just fall through the earth? Does the earth's core hold that much mass that it would stabilize there instead of falling right through into space?
