Oh, building a house definitely is cheaper in the US, even if you're only considering average land prices and no taxes. The average price of (building) land in Flanders is 127 euro per m². I don't know about the US but I can't imagine it's anything close to that expensive.

And fuel is starting to cost tons too. I don't drive a car, so I don't mind. But I do notice more and more reluctance from friends and family to drive someplace "because it's expensive" (as opposed to "cause I don't feel like it" ).

http://www.nationmaster.com/graph/ene_g ... ine-prices

Holland 7th most expensive, Belgium 15th. USA 102nd :P lucky bastards!

Ahh...hahahah *can't stop laughing*

I'm not sure for houses near to the cities, but a m² of apartment can hit over 2000€ in the capital of Serbia. A price of 127€/m² for a clean place to build up a house in a suburb just calls for laughter.

By the way, people with houses here tend to have bad problems with thieves. They have to secure all the doors, windows, build in the alarms in and perhaps pay insurance. Devlish job.

It's average price, you have to keep that in mind. If you want something in the middle of Antwerp or Brussels you're going to pay a multitude of 127 €. In fact, many Flemish people start building in the (not so densely populated) French-speaking part of Belgium to avoid the prices.

Cost of apartments/houses varies greatly depending on how close to downtown Dallas you want to live. An apartment down town (in a decent part of the city) costs a great deal. On the other hand, if you don't mind driving an hour in to work every morning, you can get a ridiculous amount of land for cheap.

For instance, a downtown apartment: http://www.mercantileplace.com/plans.html
One Bedroom $1,488 - $2,050
Two Bedroom $1,750 - $2,550
One Bedroom Penthouse $3,000 - $4,950
Two Bedroom Penthouse $5,950 - $6,650
(that's per month)

Or, an hour out, you can get 11 acres of land with a house for less than $200,000. An acre is about 4000 meters squared.

lol, awesome.

So

11 acres = 200.000
1 acre= 4000 m²

=

200000/11=18181/4000= 4,5 bucks per m²

yeah...that's gonna be a biiig garden. :)

haha, yea. Shiny and I have been looking at something like that. Not that we can really afford it yet, but we'd like to have a huge chunk of land...own some horses. Build some bunkers for when the bombs start falling. Stockpile guns, ammo, food, water, fuel.

lol. It would pretty awesome if Satis and Shiny were the last survivors on earth thanks to their off the hizzle bunker, only to then suffocate themselves by trying to BBQ inside it.

Interesting pictures of the West Gate. I don't like the rest, far too modern, industrialised/people-y for me. The sunset looks nice though!
