The card thing sounds a bit like Guild War's skills system, if I'm not reading it wrong.

That's pretty much how I managed to understand it, just that you switch between skill in-battle as such. Sounds like it'll make the fights a bit more interesting.

Vanguard is offering a free month to anyone who owns or owned an account.

Yep I got the email... vaguely tempted but then I took on the EQ2 free 2 months that they offered and as soon as I installed that my pc started to die on me... plus I tried VG again recently for a month anyway and unfortunately SOE have once again ruined a potentially great game.

Vanguard is time limited, so if you dont care, discard it from your mind immediatly.

Warhammer online is apparently pushing real hard to get released on time. In fact, they're pushing so hard they're...

Yea, sounds like EA is forcing this game out in a totally unfinished state. I bet it crashes and burns worse than Vanguard.

I can't believe they're basically saying "Ok, so we're releasing an unfinished game, but we hope you're still buying it". Wtf? What kinda marketing is that? I mean, as a buyer I would be pissed of if they didn't tell me; but from the developers POV it doesn't make any sense whatsoever to tell people that half the game isn't actually...in the game. Yet.
I sometimes wonder...games industry is getting huge and keeps on booming, but i always have the idea that a lot of amateurs are still in charge. Or programmers that became CEO's and spokespeople in the early years. You know what I mean? Gaming business isn't so old, after all.
It's gonna take a while before the market matures. Try selling a car at full price, saying that "it still needs a roof, a trunk and air conditioning, but hey. We'll get to that".

The big mega companies are just into grinding out crap anyway. I mean, most of those developers are noobs out of college... they probably have a couple years of programming experience and are let loose. I bet you dollar to donuts they have no clue wtf they're doing.
A lot of those programmers burn out after a few years and get jobs doing other stuff. The ones that stick around tend to form their own companies and crank out the occasion, but more original, games.
Anyway, we'll see how the gaming market matures. EA may gobble up and poop out their programmers, but other game developers are more coddling. Once the talent pool of good programmers swells I'll bet we see a lot more high quality games coming out.

LOL I've heard of unfinished games but seriously... you can't leave out entire cities! So one day you'll log on in the middle of nowhere, just where you'd logged out but there'll be a huge city around you? hehe.
Roll on Darkfall is all I have to say.

Looks like a potential WoW-killer. Bioware at the helm is almost enough reason to give it a spin alone, but I still wonder how they're going to stop 80% of all gamers from becoming a jedi knight.
Not to worry though, I'll be a Sith. Or a dark side member of the Republic. And I'll probably try a non-force user class if they're not completely whacked.
SOE's presence doesn't bode well but it's balanced out by Bioware...barely

SOE's presence pisses me off already. And the previous KOTOR's track record of being bug-riddled doesn't bode well either. I think I'll sit this one out for a few months to see how it goes. Depends on how crazy Shiny drives me and how bored I am at the time, I guess.
