oooo Severance is an AWESOME game. Great combos, amazing gore (for its time, certainly) and just downright cool. :D the opening movie is really really cool (dunno why I like it, I just do), but never plays on mine now, so I have to view it from the folder in media player. It was my first 'bought' game for the PC (had loads of 'em free with the pc), I got the demo from a magazine, tried it out, and was just like.... omg gimme!

Completed it with amazon, just gotta do it with the other three now. hehe.

Have to bump this topic, just completed Severance with the Knight. Don't think i'm going to bother to do it with the other 3 characters.

Come to think of it, has Pevil been posting lately?

Anyway: i think it's a great game, of course graphics are dated now and the story ... well let's say there IS one, somewhere. :P
But i really like the combat system with the combo's and stuff. Don't know another action game like this that is as challenging as this one, every single fight could get you serieusly wounded or killed. Or maybe i just suck.

Lol, if you suck then I suck.

What really pissed me off were the Orc's with poisoned blades. It got to the stage where I'd just load it if I got poisoned and try to perfect the fight instead.

Still, what a game! They need to bring out a second one!

Yeah poison is so annoying.

It gets easier when you have the sword of ianna though, especially against slow moving opponents like minotaurs and golems. And the last fights weren't that hard either.

Or maybe i'm just awesome.

BASTARD POISON!

yeah im still posting, you just gotta post something interesting for me to reply to ;)

I do actually feel the need to complete it with all chars at some point. I almost completed it with the Amazon (got to the end boss, then ended up losing the damned save so I count that as completed for all intensive purposes); absolutely love it with her coz she can dodge out of the way really well, being the most agile. But I think she has the lowest HP so you really have to not get hit while playing with her. I missed her final Bo though I think, so tbh it'll do me good to play it again. Though I was using Tribes walkthrough before so without that, I'll be screwed on finding everything... ah well.

The amazon is considered the 'easy' option coz she's easy to dodge with, and tbh this game is all about not being hit (as you noticed lol), the knight is second easiest coz he has the shield, can take more hits but still jumps away easily, the barbarian is third coz he does lots of damage and the dwarf is meant to be the hardest because he's short, can't really dodge well and doesn't do a huge amount of damage (compared to the barb at least).

I just love the gore, its great. Possibly the nearest game to it is Heroes of Might and Magic, in the sense of you don't have to whittle away the hp until they die, but if you hit them right or knock 'em off a cliff, its game over for the enemy (or you! eep!). Come on Codemasters, stop bringing out shit and do good games again!

We need CrazyDwarf back, he was the Severance Guru over at WTO. Oh and I totally agree, Ianna helped a lot and the big slowmoving guys were far too easy. I vaguely remember being annoyed by the flaming guys in the second to last level though (as you're progressing up the tower). And I did love the atmosphere in that game. As the knight in his starting level, where you come out of the water and start to head up the stairs, only to see the shadows of two Critters chewing on something and hear the fire crackling... it was pretty spooky really

dammit now i gotta remember their names and I never can... the Knight is Sargon... ah screw it, I'll just play it in a bit. hehe.

edit: ok if the sequel was gonna be on xbox and ps2... i'm glad they never made them. It wouldn't be right on a console.

Dwarf: Naglfar / Barbarian: Tukaram / Amazon: Zoe

Had to use this though: faq/walkthrough

And i agree: great gore, great atmosphere. These knights with wall shields and later skull shields annoyed me most. They generally were very patient to attack and used their shields very well. It wasn't until i got the sharp sword that i found an easy way to deal with them.

Some though boss fights as well: i remember some boss skeleton (was it on fire, i think so) and my first encounter with the vampire and his shield. Sooo many reloads lol.

Mm maybe i'll play it again with another character anyway.

After reading that last night, I had to go and reinstall it. Whoops ;) So yeah, looked up the char names in the manual. I'm replaying it as Sargon now; nearly finished his level, I got up to the big chaos knight, but kept getting stuck on walls (I soon remembered my...er... 'technique' for winning most fights; strafe like a madman then hit 'em in the back, hooray!) and died twice so quit for the night. I love the game so much, considering it's 7 years old, its pretty amazing, the way you can break tables, boxes and barrels, set fire to anything wooden and throw your weapons at the enemy.

Lol @ strafing like a madman. I learned that you get hit less often when you just dodge when the enemy will strike. Or maybe you're just lucky when dodging, i got quite a beating trying to dodge too often.

Hardly ever used my shields as well, maybe that could have made things easier. I did use my shield against those big chaos knights in the end, turned out their orbs didn't damage my shield when i blocked, so i totally pwned them by staying at a distance. Dunno if it works with the first big knight. I killed him with ease though.

Btw how often do you save? I ended up with 'overcautious' lol, about 260 saves untill i finished the game. Slightly overdone it, but i like saving after a perfect kill :P

hehe well it depends on the mob, the large slow bosses you can just continually strafe in one direction and never get hit (unless you get stuck on a wall...), but the faster guys will generally hit you. Or those with long, large weapons (sssh people).

Ditto on the shield, as Zoe can't use 'em ;) hehe. But I'm not really using them much with my knight atm, they break so ridiculously fast. Of course, I'm only using the beginner ones atm (wooden/comet) but even so...

And yeah I ended up on overcautious on the saves, I was probably in a few hundred like you. It's such an annoying game to have to reload, because you can't guarantee you'll win (unlike rpgs where "oh noes, I'll have to fight that low lvl critter again *yawn*"), though this time round I've only saved it 3 times so far (and once was simply to get past the evil flaming pendulums of death which I usually mess up just out of sheer stupidity). The only reason I have so few saves on this so far is that I've done the knights first level dozens of times (when I was playing the demo way back before I bought it)
