It was just a bad geometry of the craft combined with a weak construction.

Still, it surprises me that no launching ramp was used. With a ramp you can control the first few seconds of the flight. Im sure they couldve launched it further.

I think thats why the real shuttles use ramp, to make sure the rocket bursts are evenly divided and controlled.

real shuttles use ramps? Last time I looked the space shuttle (US version) was launched vertically like the x-wing. :p

I meant the tower they stand next to.

Edit: But apparently the shuttle is bolted to the launchpad so when all the engines produce 100% of thrust the bolts are detonated and the shuttle lifts off.

I just hope space tourism takes off before I'm too old to enjoy it. Like 90% of the people I grew up with, I wanted to be an astronaut. :)
