Post PS2 Games
So... I'm probably going to pick up a PS2. Not for me to play but to entertain the children of friends of mine while their parents are getting drunk.

So... what are good multiplayer games for the PS2? And beyond that, I really don't know much about the PS2. How many players can play a single PS2? And are they linkable or anything to boost the player count any more?

Simple version:
Good ps2 multiplayer games?
Any additional info about ps2 multiplayer.

Don't know that much about multiplayer, but in general you get games up to 2 persons. So that's not really multi.
I believe you can buy an extra thing (multitap-like) so you can hook up 4 people, but don't know many games that support it.

What might be an option for PS2 (i think it is for ps2 if it isn't others will no doubt correct me) is buy a BUZZ set, with games.
I'll add a picture to give you a general idea: click

Two PS2 can be linked, each can hold 4 controllers with multitap. Check the back of the game box for how many it supports. TimeSplitters from way back was funky FPS fun.

Tony hawk is good for PS2. I just bought GTA vice & liberty city stories. Gonna play tomorrow evening.

Guitar Hero 2 is great multiplayer
Buzz is supposed to be real good party fun
Look for games that support "net play" for the closest thing to real multiplayer you'll get (twisted metal black online, for instance)
Any of the Capcom beat 'em ups
Most racing games (TocA!)
Anything by EA - as they're all sports titles ;)
Don't forget that your PS1 games work on the PS2, there are a lot of classics for the PS1 and they're dirt cheap.

Other than that, the single player games are a much better expereince in gaming, as it has been stated, multiplayer is not a great thing for that console.

Might be better of getting a cheap Xbox? You can get them over here from a shop, with a warranty for £50 ($100) so I imagine you guys can get them for Way less, plus you've got Xbox live which really brings the multiplayer up.

Halo 2 supports multiple people on the same Xbox but versus other people online, and that game is still played to this day. Splinter Cell PT/CT has the best multiplayer experience I've ever had.

But then again, I guess you're on about in-house multiplayer.

So yes, Get a multitap and Buzz!

Maybe Singstar? *never played*

THPS aswell.

Er ... struggling.

On the other hand it will be difficult to get rid of your friends then. And trust me, once you buy that burnout, the children aint gonna have any playtime at all, coz the parents are too busy playing :D

haha, grats Peltz. Thanks for all the feedback guys. It's definetely PS2 for me... xbox is ugly and by multiplayer I meant in-house, not online. Online multiplayer for these pre-teen kids is probably a bad idea.

You guys have given me alot of ideas to mess with though. Thanks again.

*pimp slaps*

The Xbox (original) is a Man and it's proud about it. The PS2 is a girl that wanted to loose weight and they released the Slim Line version.

The Xbox 360 looks like a girl. *pats 360 elite*

What about the thousands of "Arcade" releases - you know things that contain 1001 old arcade games. Then the retro releases that Have Sonic The Hedgehog, Golden Axe etc?

Yea...I think Mole keeps losing track of the fact this is for kids. No self-respecting kid is going to enjoy playing missile command. That's only for us fogeys.

And the xbox IS ugly... it's like a big, boxy bastard. I much prefer the slim girl over the boxy dude. Oh...I get it... Mole likes boxy dudes.
