Well what can i say.
It was defenatly a positive experience. I really enjoyed the levels and stuff. Especially cool were the swampstrider and postfallout car/shoppingcart .
But the "best game ever" by pc gamer is seriously overrated. In my mind i draw comparisson to Deus Ex, which imo is still one of the best FPS games, and it doesnt even come close to it (sorry for breaking your heart you HL suckers ) I would say its the second best FPS game ive played.
Anyway the "best game ever" slogans (think Halo here) are thrown around way too easily. I would like to rant more but it would throw the topic to offtopic.

Sure, I don't think HL2 is the "best" game I ever played either. It's definitely one of the better games but not quite the best.
But I think you have to see it in terms of "general appeal" to all kinds of publics. HL2 speaks to many types of gamers because it has action, a captivating storyline (well if you followed it from the beginning, but Satis seems to have taken a like to it without having played HL1 so I guess it's not necessary), and the focus isn't 'just' on action but on the physics and environmental puzzles.
So, for a mix of hardcore/casual gamers with various interest in game genres, HL2 could very well come out somewhere on top. But gaming connoisseurs like us know better, obviously.
And halo for "best game ever" is laughable. Maybe "best shooter on a console" ever, but that's like saying "best shit on a stick" ever.

I agree. HL2 is good and all, but there's been better. Deus Ex was a great RPG.... but so was Shadowrun for the Sega Genesys and Morrowind. Even Oblivion is really good stuff...if I had to choose between HL2 and Oblivion, I'd pick Oblivion. I never played Halo on a console, but the PC version sucked. It was horrible...extremely repetitive in every way, and the storyline was boring.

I think the separate copies are still at 20€, which kinda sucks. You could wait until EP2 arrives and then get it and play right through both...EP1 will (very likely) seriously cheapen and is short enough anyway.

EP1 was so short, there was hardly anything new but it defenatly was more challenging and creepy. I loved those moments when in the dark and fighting zombines at the elevator.

Methinks Satis is not too pleased with Derf gifting his woman stuff.

Oh no, he gifted me stuff too. It's just he gifted me HL2 deathmatch. That'd be like me gifting Ox "Rainbow Brite's Adventures in Unicorn Land". Y'know, thanks and all, but you probably should've saved it for some kid in Somalia.
/me realizes he sounds like an asshole now

lol
Yeah, it was HL deathmatch. I did it more for the laugh, to be honest. Kind of like opening your long anticipated xmas present but realise its a pair of socks.
Anyway, I don't think im digging HL2 EP1.
The environment is rather closed in and pretty basic. I didnt enjoy being forced to use the gravity gun for so long (and not being able to pickup enemy guns). And i dont really appreciate the scattered puzzles.
I think i dont really like scifi in general tho. Sci fi too often ends up replacing honest reasoning with eyecandy or coolness, such as being able to harmlessly walk through some lightening bolts, but dying instantly on others.
I loved HL2 to bits. Im not a fanboy but I kinda knew the moral sense of the plot. Here I dont have a clue what the Ep1 plot is, or where the hell I am.
I quicksaved as things are opening up (got a shotgun) so I guess ill load up and continue soon, but things had better open the hell up, and those fucking puzzles had better end or else im gonna load up Ep2 rather sharphish.

heh....I'm not so big on HL2. I mean, the original was cool, the episodes weren't so great. And supposedly they were going episodic so they could release games more often, but that's apparently not really happening. A new episode every 6 months would be cool. Every 3 years, not so cool.
Besides, it's getting to be like a freakin' soap opera. Just have the chick give Freeman some oral loving and get it over with. I'm tired of the sophomoric romance crap.
