ok, i'll try it later. would i have to uninstall the cordless keyboard to do it or just pull out the usb cable and boot up with the normal keyboard plugged in?

You shouldn't have to uninstall anything, regardless. If you the replacement is USB, just swap them out. If it is the older style, try swapping them out, and if that doesn't work then reboot.
