Well it looks like the Intel Pentium D is now "OLD NEWS"...

yea, core 2 duo is kicking ass. I'm sure AMD will have an answer out soon, though. and I'm curious if/how they're going to leverage the technology they bought with ATI.

I don't believe AMD will have an answer to the Core Duo anytime soon. The next big AMD thing will be somewhere mid next year I believe. I hope AMD's new ownership of ATi will make the latter suck less.
