Post Prey
I've been playing the game on and off for a day or two, and it's really fun. It's not the best shooter I ever played, but it's up-tempo with some very cool moments -they really fuck with your balance with the wallwalks etc- and it even managed to freak me out somewhat at some points. :)

The rather funny thing is that the only thing that's kinda holding back the game so far is the indian-powers story. I mean, I don't hate the indian them like I do the Asian style, but it just seems...pointless. Like they went out of their way to find a story to justify the game, you know? A game like Half-Life for example features fantastic elements too but because you gradually ease into things it's much more believable. (ok, ok, HL saga was spread over 2 games but you know)

Anyway, two thumbs up for Prey so far. The action is good, the design is sexy and the wall walking adds that little extra flavor. :) Like I said, it's a pretty standard shooter (not very hard either tbh) but fun fun.

Some pics attached

EDIT: or not...the upload is fucked, Derf mentioned it too with regard to his sig iirc.

we just got this in-stock today ready for release tomorrow. Reading the back I found out one cool thing; the guy that does the music is the guy who did it all for Guild Wars and Oblivion. Love the music in those games so at least we know that'll be good ;)

Hehe, I started paying more attention to the music after you mentioned that and yeah, it actually is really good. Very cinematic.

I'm liking the game more and more as I get into it btw. The design is really great..like mini planets with their own sphere of gravity etc. Real fun stuff. And the action is very fluid and natural.

well i have the 360 version sitting next to me now. my deputy manager took a copy home last night and didn't like it (after loving the demo) so i'm a lil worried now! hehe but it has multiplayer so at the very least i'm sure moleman will enjoy that

gamespot reviewed it and it got middling grades. I'd linky but I'm too lazy to do that.

its one heck of a confusing game. played yesterday (done about 8 of the levels - mole is through 18 of them). loving the game, the puzzles can be confusing but since its usually just a question of finding the right portal, you get there in the end by stepping through them all. The 'not quite dying' gets kinda irritating but far less than it would if you actually died and had to load (load times are pretty huge on the 360 ~30s at the start of each level). Plus there's no reloading! yay! hehe.

whole place is pretty disgusting and i think i've figured out what the end boss will be/how the story will turn out, but we'll see ;) But as i'm not a fan of shooters, it must be doing something right ;)

oh on the 360 we have achievements and one of the secret ones is to score $250 on poker; when i re-found the machine in the ship, i got a royal flush and scored $250,000 straight away ;)

Glad you liike Prey pev!! I'd say 'ask away if you're stuck somewhere' but you've got steve there to do so :P

I was stuck on a few of the puzzles for a good few minutes, hehe. But I liked them overall, they are pretty logical and fun most of the time!

Anyway, have fun with the rest of the game...I finished it too, and imho it doesn't stop being cool till the very end. :D

What is your fav weapon? The 'goo shotgun' and the rechargable machine are mine!

lol so far i've not really been stuck; like i say you run around long enough it works ;)

hmmm fave gun... I love the lightning ammo for the blaster-type thingy you get, and i like the Centurions machine gun, just coz its so cool how you get it (take that bitch ;)) So far haven't gotten any more past that, but Mole has them all and I think the last gun will be most fun ;) The Snot gun is pretty cool too, just wish it dissolved limbs while they were still alive ;)

O.o

I got a copy...you know you can load games from the demo? So anyway, I skipped all that crap. Just beat the centurion...bitch, gimme that! heh. Haven't gotten much further. So far I haven't gotten bored, though.

You prolly won't get bored until you get stuck at one of the 'what the hell am I supposed to do' puzzles. The game's pretty uptempo and exciting overall. :)

And yeah, I seem to have missed out on the loading demo save games option...I think it did come up but I chose 'new game' instead. Ah well.

@ Pev: I like the 'last' type of charge you get for that gun best. It's some sort of ultra destroying ray. Yay!

lol haven't seen the last charge type yet, guess Mole didn't get quite far enough ;)

You can't load games from the 360 version of the demo, you couldn't even save them. No autosave, nothing. But it didn't take long to run through the first 5 levels again.

I can't play now til thurs; Mole is at his parents and took Prey with him, but I'm going there Wed night so then I'll be able to finish it and get all the good guns ;)

I just met up with the benefactors in the game. Maybe I'm jaded, but I'm starting to get bored. Same environments, over and over again. Even the "omg" moments are losing their appeal.

It might get a little repetitive at that point yeah (the meeting with those guys is pretty...standard too), but it gets better again after that. So don't despair. :P

As for the environments...similar perhaps, but also graphically kick-ass. And I like Tommy's blurbs. They add a nice feel to the game, the voice acting is good.

ok, I beat it.

y'know...maybe I'm jaded, but I didn't really like it. Too repetitive. The flying parts were a decent change, but for the most part is corridor slogging through mushy muck, like quake4. But quake4 had more varied environments and enemies. Prey was just repetitive.

For instance, at the end, when you're fighting the same uber creature over and over again.... *shudder* That was just teh sux0r. Not because it was especially hard, but because it was the same crap, over and over. You couldn't even run through, you had to kill em all. That was most of the game for me... same crap, over and over.

As much as I hated the Indian theme (still do), I thought a few more indian powers would've been nice. I mean, if you're going to make it a big part of the game, go all the way. But no.
