Is driving whilst on a mobile phone illegal in the states? It is over here, but we still get pricks doing it. I think smoking whilst driving should be illegal too. One fuck up when you burn yourself and it could be over.

Driving while yapping laws are on a state-by-state basis. Texas doesn't have a law yet. However, most of the states that do have the law say it's legal to drive a yap if you have a hands-free set. However, most studies have shown that having hands-free is just as bad as not, so it's pretty much a nonissue.
Personally, I don't think it should be legislated to be illegal to yap on the phone and drive. Rather, I think police should be taking advantage of existing hazardous driving rules. That way they can nab people for talking, or playing with the radio, or eating while driving, or putting on makeup, or the 100 other stupid things people do while driving.

Getting fined is not the point here, You getting hurt and not only you have to pay for medical expences, you have to cover any damage you caused.

Ignoring red lights doesn't mean I take huge risks.

Myrdinn, I think the court ruling just was about the damage the dog -not on a leash I presume- caused to the car, not that he needs to learn traffic codes. Prolly went like this:
Dog runs in front of car. Car damaged. Owner tries to get insurance refund, but fails. Goes to court to get damages paid. Judge figures the dog caused the damage so the owner of the dog should pay. It makes sense, kinda.
Of course, one wonders what happens when the dog rapes and kills three people. Do they send the owner to the big house?
Erh..anyway. @ Mole, I was talking about motorbikes, not normal bikes..with normal bikes it all depends on the availability of proper bike lanes and if drivers are familiar with bike riding. With the cycling culture her and/or in Holland you can drive your bike relatively safely in almost every area. But I've heard a lot of stories of cyclists in the US or Oz who were almost deliberately hit by some redneck in an SUV thinking that cyclists don't belong on 'their' road. So I guess I can't blame Satis for not being into riding his bike to work.
So, anyway: motor bikes are fucking death traps. No better way to get killed than getting on them (i'm talking race machines here, not scooters ). I personally know of 4 ppl who either died or suffer a long term handicap because of a motor accident, and 0 who had the same happen with cars....and there are a lot more of those.
@ the mobile in car discussion...thing always is: I don't care if they get killed while doing it, but I don't wanna be caught in their accident.

Sorry I may have sounded a little extreme.
But the thing is that the dog isn't responsible for its actions. I mean if it was a one in a million accident which could not have been prevented because of the dog does that mean that the owner should pay? Yes it kind of makes sense but it is a little harsh.

Well in the end it all depends on the traffic.
As the following link shows, driving a bike or even walking is a serious hazard to your health, pay attention to the pedestrian in right lower corner.
Link to traffic

lol, no fatalities! wtf! Traffic like that would drive me nuts. I'd end up flattening someone on a motorcycle. Though the guy that got practically squished between the car and the bike was awfully calm.

That's what I thought about the guy and the bike/car.
And that video also explains the way a lot of the fuckin' imagrants drive over here in england.
They're fucking wankers.
