I think I'm on a different page here... But what do you mean? Duke Nukem 3D was awesome!
Wait, do you mean Duke Nukem Forever?

lol, yea, duke nukem 3d was pretty damned good for its time. How about they trash 'forever' and just make a different gane.

I recompleted that recently on the PC version - Apart from a couple of extra levels and easier controls, the sega saturn version was better for three reasons.
1. Cut scene demos, They didn't seem to be in the PC version.
2. Urea 51 - The secret level if you smash all the toilets in the game, then return to a toilet that is out of order in one of the levels. You have plenty of aliens to kill, and the aim of the level is to drop in to a giant toilet.
3. Death tank - A secret game you got for completing it, which was quite frankly, one of the best multiplayer games I ever played. Imagine Worms armageddon, but even simpler graphics, in real time, up to four players. Damn that was awesome.
PC version advantages -
More hiden levels (No Urea 51 )
Easier aiming (Saturn had no analogue sticks)
More Mini-battle lords to fight.
Sorry, I'm a bit of a duke nukem fan - Did you know that they had to ask Sam Rami for permision to use "hail to the king baby" etc because Ash from evil dead used the lines? along side "give me some sugar" etc

lol...you remembered all that bu heart? That's....sick. Hehehe. And yeah, I meant Duke Nukem Forever, sorry about that. It's just that I've come to the point that the entire thing is so elusive that even the title becomes hard to imagine/understand.

lol. I'd take that one to the bookies.
Btw, 3DRealms are cool as always about the whole controversy:
 | | | | Quote: No, you cannot pre-order the game. If you see some online store saying "We are taking pre-orders", they're just trying to get your money (they usually also make up their own supposed "insider release date info", too). There is no release date set, we are not taking pre-orders for the game. End of story. Once we begin taking pre-orders, believe us, you'll know about it. The release date of this game is "When it's done". Anything else, and we mean anything else is someone's speculation. There is no date. We don't know any date. If you have a friend who claims they have "inside info", or there's some game news site, or some computer store at the mall who claims they know - they do not. They are making it up. There is no date. Period. And yes, we know the game has taken a long time. There's no possible joke you could make about the game's development time that we haven't already heard. | | | | |

I don't believe I've seen this one mentioned here before, but there's (finally) a sequel to Caesar III coming: http://www.caesariv.com/
Let's hope it'll be good, Children of the Nile didn't become such a succes, I believe.

Definitely watch Dark Messiah of Might & Magic guys...it's born under a very lucky star (genius designer team, source engine, homm universe and Ubisoft for producer) and I'm sure it'll be a hit.
Basically it'll be a melee FPS with magic etc...and of course RPG elements. At first sight you may think 'oh boy...', but I experienced Arkane studios' (developer) talent firsthand with the vastly underrated Arx Fatalis and I'm sure they won't disappoint me. I'm especially looking forward to the magic tricks.
Here's the site, it's only been up for a few days so not much there yet.

A few screens and a short vid with Valve's Gabe Newell talking a bit through some short gameplay footage.

Have a look at it, especially the guy slipping over the ice spot looks like good fund.
And a preview here:

 | | | | Quote: First, as a warrior, we ran headlong into the fray. We shield-bashed an orc, then kicked him off of the cliff where he plummeted to the rocks below. Next, on the platform, we fought sword-to-sword against another orc, sparks flying. Using a special combat move we ripped away his shield. Then we grabbed his neck, plunged a sword into his gut, and kicked the body off of our sword and over the edge of the platform. By now, more orcs had rushed toward us to investigate the noise. We ran inside the room, which was filled with barrels and a side of beef hanging from the ceiling. As we fought tooth and nail with these guys, barrels fell over and smashed or rolled around the room. At one point we kicked the side of beef and sent it hurtling toward our opponents. It was as vicious of a fight as you could get: the camera even goes to slow motion for spectacular killing blows. | | | | |

Tbh I'm a bit sceptical about this 'wonderful swordfighting system'. The only swordfighting systems I liked were Prince of Persia 3D (the one before it really got raped) and Blade of Darkness (I really liked that game because of the combat system). Other action games and all the FPS games (with no 3d person) with swords are usually 'wack the opponent harder than he wacks you', such as the Jedi Knight series. But even if the swordfighting is crap, the magic is great That Ice Spell in the teaser was just class. No info about the release date yet I suppose? *runs off to read the preview* Edit: Oooooooooooooooooooo Well if they add retarded dolphins this will be better than Spore! Now let's hope this works out all right
Gah. I might consider some kind of hibernation Is there anything being released on short term that's worth looking at?
And btw, could any of you native English speakers grammar-check my posts? Never had any real problems with the language, but with exams coming up I feel the need to fine-tune it.

You're right to be sceptical about the first person melee combat, it's usually pretty sucky. Takle Morrowind, that was just moving back and forth and clicking the mouse. It's fun, no doubt, but not very involving if that's the centre point of the game (like it will be in Dark Messiah, apparently).
Did you play Arx Fatalis DA? Because that was such an awesome low-budget game, I have nothing but confidence in the stuff Arkane can pull with a high-end source engine and havoc physics. (That's also why I'm so excited about this game) The ice spot in the rolling demo was only a small fraction of what they can do, so wahey.
I also hope they keep the Arx magic system. It was glorious, the most organic system I've ever seen. You had several runes (symbols) who all stood for a certain action/element.
So there was
aam: make
nhi: negate/destroy
vitae: life
yok: fire
mega: improve
movis: move
and so forth...now, what you did was combine these elements into logical spells by using a mouse-based casting system: you drew the runes one after the other with your mouse and you'd get the spell. So if you wanted to heal you combine
mega+vitae = improve+ life
Or light a torch or a fireplace? aam+yok. Put them out for sneaking purposes? nhi+yok! These are simply the basics, but you see the logic behind it all. Haste yourself? mega+movis! Paralyze someone? Nhi+movis!
Sorry, but that it awesome. I can't understand why no other game picked up the system yet.

Going to look for it in the low-budget bins the few game stores here have. A magic system like that is brilliant in its simplicity. Sure, you'll miss complicated spells like Ice Storm but creating your own basic spells must give the game a more realistic (well, realistic...) atmosphere. A pity most game creators focus more on graphics than stories and gameplay these days. Oh and Morrowind fighting system... that was... well... a nice try and no more than that. I mean, walking in a direction + attack key = different attack. Usually ended up doing that overhead attack. Liked the game though The things I remember most are the mage falling from the sky and jumping or running everywhere to improve the Acrobatics/Athletics skills. Should play it as a mage some day
btw did anyone play the Dungeon Lords demo? God that was a disaster. Had high hopes for it, but when I started the demo I was in a pitchblack area (apparantly a field) with a minimum line of sight leaving you stuck in the dark (literally). While you're running blindly through this 'field', goblins jump out of the dark everywhere to kill you, and they're really good at that. Perhaps I should give it a better try but tbh I don't know if I still want to *shrugs*

Hehe, cool, I hope you can find Arx. I bought it off ebay because I couldn't find it around here, but maybe there are better and bigger budget shops in Holland, dunno. It would seem like a very Dutch thing to have budget shops tho. hehe, jk. But Arx still is a great game to this day. I've actually been replaying it in the last week, great fun. Awesome atmosphere, good story, great casting system, and requires a lot of thinking....it's not a very easy RPG, pretty 'basic'. But that won't be a problem.
Btw, found a new low-quality vid about Dark Messiah, and you can see a bit about the different styles and stances in it.
http://media.pc.ign.com/media/736/736193/vids_1.html
the left one is the better of the two, imho. I'm impressed by some of that action, too...I liked the way the guy fighting with two short swords/daggers could use them as throwing weapons...or in the fight with the orc, the way you can smash his shield with a certain strike. Or the awesome disarmament. Or pushing him off your sword and over the ridge. All real good stuff!

Interesting movies... I liked the right one better though The fight with the wyvern/dragon was kind of cool and they showed some new ice magic + environment interaction (although I still wonder how the player should get across the bridge after cutting the ropes idiot). Swordfighting... well... I got the impression that it's still some limited combo-button-pressing with the run-through finishing move when your opponent is disarmed. Ah well, I prolly play it as an ice mage the first time anyway

And Civ IV is almost ready. Winter 2005 release, just a few more months. It's biggest new thing is religion, but it also looks gorgeous, you can see from cities on the map what improvements they have.

Have a crack at the Fahrenheit demo if you have the time...I was pleasantly surprised. it's a bit of a unique game mixing elements from different genres, with a great, cinematic atmosphere. Action/Adventure thingie, not a lot of those these days.
