how can "both be accepted" but one be correct? That implies the other is incorrect. Yet, it's accepted, so it must not be incorrect. Ya bastard. Best stop while you're ahead or I'll purposefully slaughter the spelling/grammar of your rank. Troublemaker.

No, the proper spelling is "Satis' ", but since we use "...s's" so frequently, it has become accepted by the general populace. But technically, it's still wrong. It's a bit like "fun". We say "It was really fun!", but fun can't actually be used as such.
Blah - I'm right, you're wrong 8)

I still think you're wrong
http://owl.english.purdue.edu/handouts/ ... apost.html
"add 's to the singular form of the word (even if it ends in -s):"
and then again
http://www.learningcommons.uoguelph.ca/ ... mmar.htm#4
"When showing possession, add an 's to the owner word. Then, if the word ends in a double or triple s, erase the one after the apostrophe and leave the apostrophe in place."
however, even by them, it should be Satis's (satis end in a single s, not double or triple).
And from some UK college:
http://www.lboro.ac.uk/departments/el/t ... rophe.html
"With Mr. Jones, there are two options. It can either be added in the normal way, ie Jones's, or it can be added on its own after the name, ie Jones'. Strictly the first case is correct, but there are no clear rules here - many people use the second case as it appears less cluttered in normal text. The same is true of many other names ending with the letter "s". "
this one says we're both right. So, either I'm right, I'm right, or I'm right but your way is acceptable.

Actually you'll find more sources for my argument that against it.
So your options are, I win, we both win, or you lose.
(I can't believe we're arguing over something as trivial as this. On that note I'll lock this.)
*Realises Satis is admin, so locking it won't make a difference*

Man i love this discussion, i propose Inqui's title is changed from "Satis's Slut" to "Apostrophe ho".
Since i agree with Satis in this more than with Inqui (the apostrophe thing) i'll shut it about him. Anyways, if ya want i could ask my professor English about it. That could be the ultimate judgement, i'm pretty sure they should know better than all three of us in this. Altho it'll be scary to actually speak to one.

erm, no offense, but unless you English professor is a native English speaker with a doctorate in the English language, it's not gonna mean much. Even then, I'm sure Inqui's gonna ignore him.
I'm right, damnit, I'm right!!

heh...see ur point but i think it'd mean more than many native english speaker's teachers and even professors opinion. This is Belgium ffs, not some third world country, we got a better educational system than the US and N-Z combined hehehe ok, i know it doesn't show on me, but we actually do. And for mere technicalities like an apostrophe you don't have to be a native speaker whatsoever. It's just a plain convention. If it had been for modalities and semantics it had obviously been much better to have a native speaker. Blah.

Ok, both are accepted. Fine. But only one is the correct one - "s' "

ok, your links please? Every link I posted supports my hypothesis. "My English teacher confirmed it" isn't what I would call conclusive evidence.

Funny you should say that, since you misused an apostrophe in "apostrophe's". lol. If you didn't do that on purpose, that's just too damn funny.
