It does, innit? Especially this one:

Quote:
In fact, I've been getting a lot of practice experimenting with exactly the types of scenarios I've described as I implement the quests for the Elder Scrolls Series' venerable assassin's guild -- the Dark Brotherhood. In Morrowind, players could join the Morag Tong and commit government-sanctioned acts of murder. In Oblivion, I wanted to take a different, decidedly more evil, approach. Gone are the writs that essentially served as "Get out of Jail Free" cards you could simply wave in front of a guard's face to walk away with cold-blooded murder. No, make no mistake, in TES IV: Oblivion, those who join the Dark Brotherhood will operate on the wrong side of the law. When you kill, you kill for the family, authorities be damned… and Sithis be praised.

I'm going to get back to the old Daggerfall days: bust down the door, carve apart my target, rush out, shake off the guards and ride off into the night on my horse. :) No stealth here, but killing stuff? Sure! Let's hope it won't cost me as much time in jail this time as in Daggerfall, tho. Even I was caught by the guards once or twice. Before I picked up lycantrophy that is, there were very few guards with silver weaponry.

Oo, lookee what I found

Legal System

An awesome thing in Daggerfall was jail time. Your character was given time in jail for any legal wrong doing. Unfortunately this only consisted of staring at a still picture as the days ticked down, but the developers of Oblivion have already stated that there will be actual jail time in TESIV which includes a lockpicking minigame, stealing the guards' keys, or similar thief type actions to get out of jail. I plan on jailing myself at least once to have fun with it...

Here are the different crime categories from Daggerfall and a brief description of what it means:

Break and Entering -- Attempts to break into house during daytime and is seen, whether he succeeds or fails in his lockpicking. Leaves a place where he has been trespassing and is spotted.

Trespassing -- Tresspasses (goes into an area where he does not have the privilege to be) and is seen.

Assault -- Attacks someone during daytime and is seen before the person has been killed.

Criminal Mischief -- Consorts with a member of the underworld (i.e. Dark Brotherhood) and is seen by a law official.

Vagrancy -- Camping within range of a town or settlement

They left out murder and another one, but I forgot which. Anyway, I got picked up for criminal mischief a lot, for my connections with the Brotherhood, the Underking, and so forth. :/ I think my rep was somewhere between 'criminal' and 'pond scum'.

Another installment in the "I hype Oblivion because I have no life" series: the work of a tester. Interesting read, and potentially disillusioning for ppl who think testing is just having fun. :) (up until short ago that included me)

Short piece on the Radiant AI

Quote:
Players can also use the Construction Set, the game editor that ships with Oblivion, to create their own NPCs. "All the very same AI tools that we’ve used to create the game are included with the Construction Set. Players can trade these and any other mods in the same way they could with Morrowind through our plug-in system."

Coolnes!! I already can't wait to make my own NPC's with erh, deviant personalities. Btw, did any of you guys bother making a 'home' in Morrowind using the contruction set? Or did you use a regular place to stock up your stuff? A mate of mine had made a very cool undeground 'lair' accessible through a hatch on the Balmora town square. (Balmora is pretty central)...it had chests, closets, a bed, an alchemy set and even a mini-temple with a shrine and wall crystals, and a lot more. :) I slightly modded it for my own benefit but it certainly was cosy. I'll end up doing the same in Oblivion.

Maybe we can all make our own dig and exchange them? it's only a few Kb anyway.

Btw; this is how Oblivion will look like on the shelves:

This reflects very well on the set release date, too! :) (and GOD, finally not a crappy DVD case but a real box...even if there's a DVD case inside, I don't mind!)

lol...I never played with the construction set. I very may well this time. Be neat if we could set up our own little modding community. Maybe make some quests and swap them around. Be fun. :)

We definitely should do that. Assuming that Oblivion is the next big thing we'll all pick up when it comes out (those of us who can work that pc magic anyway) we could make a mini-centre about it. We'll see. I'd be very interested to see how you guys would decorate your dig, for one. :)

Anyway, more "info": release dates for pre-order on online stores

Wal-Mart says "Probably 11/21/05
CD Universe says 11/23/05
Best Buy says 11/17/05
DVD Empire says 12/15/05
Video Game Central says 11/01/05

anything but 'solid' info, but probably a more than decent indication. Especially with the box pictures being put on the site yesterday.

psst bj get black and white 2 ;)

Never played around with the construction set, just used to use a house in Balmora (killed the inhabitant, then got told I had to kill her for a fighters guild quest so i automatically passed it! hehe) and have recently gotten the Redoran Stronghold :D yay for me!

That Oblivion case looks awesome... but i wanna know about the release dates. I have DS2 coming out 2.9.05, bnw2 either 27.9 or 14.10 (and lets face it, once i have that all other games can forget about even being looked at for 6 months at least ;)) and now Oblivion sometime too!

Games companys always do this to me. I wait a year while all the crap is released then a ton of good ones come at once. Bastards.

Pevil's got a point. If I ever end up owning a game company, I'm releasing my games in like the midde of summer, when everyone else is releasing crap games. Screw competing with all the big names.

Of course, mine'll probably be a crap game too.

lol i'm sure your game would be great satis *pats* but it is true. All good games come out Sept/Oct, then Christmas, then maybe a few in March. If just one person released a half decent game in, say, June or July, they'd make a killing!

Isn't that basically what they did with GTA: SA? But of course, that one also made an appearance on consoles first. And you're both right of course, too much pile-up in christmas period.

I think Far Cry also took advantage of that situation about a year ago; scoring the "1ste next-gen shooter" title as well. But on the other hand, Far Cry kinda got swamped because of a not-so-impressive PR campaign. It's a better game than Doom³, but got a LOT less fuss.So maybe you nééd to come out during the holidays to get best coverage...bleh, anyway.

Oblivion update: word on the steet (ie; internet) is that it will run smoother on the Xbox 360 with the optional 20 gig HD. Smoother than the standard issue Xbox that is...just for our Xbox pals here (ie Mole). Of course, Microsoft will gladly rip you off: the standard issue Xbox 360 will cost you 299$, the one with the 20 gig HD 399$. So you're paying 100 bucks for a measly 20 gig HD. Oh yeah, that makes sense. And if the best games will only run optimal on the HD one, you know it's an elaborate monemaking scheme. Bastard whores.

Anyhoo, not that it'll matter for us and our pc's. This is not news; but very entertaining (and making me/us jealous):

Quote:
In the design of Morrowind and its expansions, a lot of design meetings turned into heated discussions, often about topics that might seem out of place in a normal work environment. My favorite moment occurred the evening after one particularly heated day-long discussion over werewolves, specifically about how high they should jump. Todd and I argued the point for hours -- during the meeting, passing in the hall, while ordering lunch, etc. As any real RPG fan knows, werewolves can jump high -- really high -- but it was taking a lot to convince Todd to see the obvious error in his thinking. He has all these issues about things that "break the game" or "make the game unplayable." Whatever.

The argument went all day without resolution, and by the time I got home, I was beat. My wife and I went out to dinner, and she naturally asked me how my day went. Bad idea. I tried to explain to her about the day as I got more and more fired up, finally saying, "So this stupid werewolf meeting ended up lasting all day, and I don't understand why Todd doesn't get that werewolves should jump really high!" Of course, at first I didn't see the waitress standing behind me, or the completely puzzled look on her face. Priceless. I suppose not everyone has meetings about werewolves, but we do. Thinking about that, it makes me remember what an odd, and often amusing, job I have.

http://www.elderscrolls.com/codex/team_ ... nts_03.htm

That sucks. I want to have a job that involves discussing how high werewolves can jump and GETTING PAID FOR IT. I sometimes think that these guys don't always realize how lucky they are. :P

lol I think the main problem Mole will want sorting on the Xbox is how quickly it loads/saves... seriously, me and him could both decide to rest at the same time. I'd have autosaved, rested, woken up and be halfway to Balmora by the time his has autosaved! *pats pc*

Haha, really? I didn't know the difference was that big in that department. But what do we expect when even the next Xbox is still going to use 'memory cards' as a means of saving eh? That's pretty old-school. That HD should remedy those problems, but 100 extra bucks, that's a lot of money. :(

Anyway, wanna hear more about horses in Oblivion Caz? I ran into quite some info about them already, I could bundle what I find if you'd like. I'm bored out of my skull anyway waiting for a new pc. The bastards didn't manager to finish it by this weekend!! RAAAAAGHH *goes berserk*

sure, post the horse info.

and yeah but if you buy the 'good' xbox 360 it has the hard drive, and you can buy the HDD separately for the 'crap' one (i believe) so it still isn't really relying on memory sticks. besides, the crappy saving times on the xbox were on a hdd! lol. Stupid console *pats pc*
