 Lesser Weird
Windows XP SP2, DX9.0c flat installed so it take about 160MB in RAM. Everything significant is set for the best performance etc. Dial-up connection, JAVA runtime 1.5.
When some JAVA applet starts + mouse moves = CRASH, everything is blocked. When just JAVA applet starts CRASH happens in 3 of 5 attempts.
On WinME works but it has the most sizzling occurances on the desktop and the start meny like blinking the start button or the clock area, coloring the desktop so it cannot be re-painted without setting and moving bgimage etc. ... imagination can go very far.
Has someone idea how to get a rid of the freakin problem?
Heh, if nothing else, you can add this to the X-Files section of clankiller

What? There are things that work with Win ME?
From where do you run that Java applet? From your browser? If so, wich browser is that? I assume you have the latest Java thingy installed.

why dont you check your Event Log for errors in there. That will give us and you more insight into the problem than "my shit is broke".
BTW, is your windows firewall turned off?

running Java 1.5.x and your machine freaks out under xp? A specific applet or any applet?
If it's any applet, I'd remove Java and reinstall it. Might've been corrupted some magical way.
If one applet, i'd avoid that applet.
Something else you can try....
...uninstall video card drivers, motherboard graphics drivers, java, then reinstall...
mobo drivers
gfx card drivers
directx
java
I wouldn't really sort to that until you've run out of other options, though. Event log would be handy if there's anything in there.

Applet is not avoidable since it is a chat. Actualy the reason why I'm online. And yes, for now it works better under ME than under XP. But that's just with my com here. My other com works ok with the same XP installation... sadly it is now 400km far.
Problem is browser independable
Exact configuration come later. For now: 1.2GHz 196kB cache AMD Duron, 256MB DRAM, GeForce 2... KT7** VIA chipset MB.
Where I can find the errlog

assuming an english language OS
start | run | eventvwr
check app and system logs for anything interesting.
if that doesn't work for some reason, you can check under administrative tools. Should be there.

Im thinking its a driver issue. Maybe you have some not-so-good equipment in your XP machine it doesnt like. For it to work in ME and not XP smells of hardware issue. And did you ever check that firewall?

Sounds like your java applet doesn't like your computer. Either the applet sucks ass, the installation of java is fux0red, or your O/S is bombed.
You have a spare mouse to try (of a different variety)? Anyway, not much you can really do about it except maybe uninstall/reinstall Java and/or your O/S. I wouldn't bother with the O/S...not worth the hassle imo.

Well, the real surprise was that anything what use the any sort of graphic acceleration does not work in fullscreen mode. XP just get freezed, no matter how much times I reinstall it. So, I got feeling something is crap connected on the hardware level. What ... fmiik, I am not familiar with hardware things. Well, at end, I am again at the my other mech where everythihng works just fine under XP... well, almost everything.
