Post optical mouse
I wanted to know if anyone has an experience with optical mice. Optical mice going berserk and ways of solving this to be more exact. :)

I've had my optical mouse for some time now, and about half a year ago it started going totally crazy from time to time. Jittering to the left side of the screen and clicking away, stuff like that. Stuff that calls for reset everytime. At first i thought it had to do with static since lightning had struck close etc. It didn't happen often (and doesn't still) so I kinda never bothered fixing.

But after yet another case in the long series I decided to take a look around and stuff. I found several entries on the net about optical mice not working properly on certain surfaces etc., and that an optical mouse mat might be the solution to the mouse freaking out. I'll probably go buy the mat in any case, but I hoped someone here would have encountered a similar problem in their pc-life. :)

Oh, and I obviously downed the latest drivers from the developer (Genius) but the installer is so dodgy that I'm not using them. Freaking great support. (all the buttons like "browse", "cancel" etc. were "???")

I've had my share of frustrations from working with a wireless optical mouse on my dad's computer. He used a regular mousemat (i think, prolly got it for free somewhere), and that didn't seem to work very good. So i just kept trying to scroll the damn thing to the side and it didn't want to cooperate, then i was too far, aaaaargh. But at least it didn't move on its own.

On the other hand, i have an optical mouse on my laptop here (wired) and it's the best mouse i've ever had. I don't use a mousemat, just use it on whatever surface i use my laptop on. Wooden table, tablecloth, ... works like a charm.

You just picked a sucky one if you ask me :)

If your cursor is going crazy with your optical mouse then you might need to
a) clean the bottom. Clean the glass that the laser comes out at with a q-tip
b) clean the surface your useing your mouse on or buy a mouse pad. They have mouse pads just for optical mice.

If your mouse if clicking stuff without you clicking it could be

a) bad mouse
b) bad drivers
c) corrupt windows and or virus.

nah, I'd be more creative than making his mouse 'click stuff'. I'd replace his porn with pictures of 11b or something.

Hehehe, now that would be cruel.

Just one remark: what kind of pictures from 11b are we talking about AND how did you acquire them?

Is your lower half your good half? I think it's a tossup, personally.

As for how I got them...don't ever leave your webcam connected to your computer.

Omfg, where did all my porn go to? And what are all these pics of a freckled ass doing in my folder instead?!? *dies*

hehe..tnx for the advice ppl, mainly 11b. I guess i'll clean the mouse as you said and get an optical mouse mat. If things keep on fucking up then yes, I'll buy all that Logitech crap everyone keeps promoting. ;) For now I'll stick with my cheap-ass budget mouse.

If you want to keep taking my advice, screw logitech. Get a Microsoft optical. Logitech is weird. And the design sucks, doesnt feel right in my hand. You best bet is to go into a computer store like Best Buy, and just put your hands on some and get the one that feels the best.... in your case it will probably be the penis shape one. lol

agreed, MS optical mice are pretty nice. Logitech is decent hardware, imo, but the mouseware crap is total and utter shit. Anyway, I personally have a Kensington optical mouse. I think it's all about what you find comfortable.

mm, k...I've absorbed all this info well, m0usel0rds. I'll see if the optical mouse mat helps first.

hehe...I suppose my mastery of superfluous self-handling could reflect on my choice of mouse, but i'm afraid I'd need a new desk to fit a mouse that big on. :P ;)
