don't kill him directly though or you lose 10 repuation points, i normally cast protection from evil then summon a pit fiend so it only kills him and doesn't attack you, cause you can't control it, technically it's not your fault so you lose no reputation.
Though you could probably just anger a bear but i don't think it'll attack Sir Sarles if you just do that...pit fiend works best if you've got that spell yet

Yep pit fiend is the easiest way, but making a bear go berserk works as well. Just summon 2 bears and have them attack eachother, they will kill him. Well at least in my game :D

I always summon something small, charm Sarles (ring of human influence), let him attack the summon and get himself killed.

Great, all this bg2 babbling has put me in the mood again for playing it. So i`m busy installing it .. only need to figure out what i`m going to play and who to take with me. I might try something different this time. Play an all-good party maybe. Although the best characters in the game are evil of course. Maybe try a wild mage, never done that before. I prefer to be in control. See, bg-fever caught me already aaaaaah.

The fun of killing Sarles. Why does everyone here take a bash at paladins?

I can, it's cos your all evil doers. Not because they are boring, only evil would find good boring.

Playing as a paladin can often limit your options though. Like in IWD2 if you're a paladin and you see evil, you attack. No option to 'cooperate', not a single chance for tactics or using your enemies to your profit.
In rollplaying aspect it's more boring that way, and it hasn't got to do anything with being good or evil.

I played a paladin (or was it cavalier?). It was ok. It kinda sucked having to watch my rep all the time... still does, since I'm still a Ranger. At least I get a tad more leeway as a Ranger, though. If we ever end up playing this game AGAIN, I'm playing evil.

Yeah i'm playing all good now as well, so got to watch that reputation. In bg2 you aren't limited that much in your option as i mentioned for IWD2, but it sucks for instance that you need to kick someone out your party to get into the planar sphere, or take valygar as a full member. If your evil you don't have that problem.

I always have a party of four, so I don't have that last problem. :)
