What did you expect in the year it came out?
We have gotten more better in the realm of graphics, and if you hated it just for the graphics, you are a one-sided man.
Anything other problems you had with HL?
Because it takes two to make an agrument is why I ask.

I know I'm pretty alone as HL hater in this world. You won't convert me anyway, so cut the argument.

Can't remember, long ago at least, not when the game was just out though, but not too much later.

Can be, I really don't remember, but a game with great graphics should still be awesome after a year.

Post Anyway
I have not found out much information on Half-Life 2 save that it might be out either next year or the year after that.
Sorry the info is so scanty.

HL was a good game right up to the point with the sound detecting clashing octopus like arms. got past it a couple of times but with about 2 or 3 grenades left. never been able to get back past it. :?

wrecked the game for me.

you don`t really nade grenades to get past it. They come in handy to blow up some crates you need to get past or to distract it. But if you`re quick enough it`s a peace of cake.

There are moments when they are listening, and there are moments when they are attacking random places or places where they hear a sound. So when they`re randomly banging on the floor somewhere (where you threw a grenade or not) you can quickly run to a ladder where you need to be. If you stand still against the ladder you should be safe.
Using grenades as distraction is the easiest way of course.
