i'm probably going to get either an x800xt or 6800ultra in a couple of months, the pro doesn't cut it as much as i'd like, and i'm not gonna be upgrading again for about another 2-3 years. maybe more. my question is, go with the xt or with the arguably more future forward thinking ultra? both great cards, with a gnats cock inbetween them really. but is ps 3 going to be that important? there isn't much to go on at the moment.

opinions?

and please, no fanboy war

who you calling a boy, bitch?

Anyway, if you're talking about 2-3 years till your next upgrade, yes. PixelShader 3.0 will matter. I'm certain that, in 2-3 years, we'll be using 5.0 or 6.0, but bleh. You want realistic sweat dripping off of bodies, don't you?

If you upgrade again under 2 years go with PS 2.
If you upgrade 2 years or above go with PS 3.

The new unreal engine 3 doesnt even use PS 3 I dont think. And if a game comes out with PS 3, your gonna need alot more than a graphics card to play it.

yeah, i've more or less decided to go with the 6800 ultra, by the sound of it ati's next gen cards will be shader 3 compatable so it seems that complient games wont be far off. besides, farcry v1.3 will probably kick ass. theres not much btw ati and nvidea anymore anyway.

i definitly wont be upgrading for a few years so it seems to be far more future proof. or as future proof as you can get anyway

EDIT TYRANUS: damn quick reply  yeah, that was me.
