 GPU names
Im a little comfused today on the name of graphics cards.
For example, ATI make cards such as the Radeon 9800 XT, but there are also cards out there called ATI Sappire 9800 XT.
The same thing goes for many many more cards out there whether they are ATI or Nvidia, so whats the difference?

with nvidia, the higher the number, the better, basically.
Unless it has 'MX' in it somewhere, which means it's the crappy, cheap version of the card. It's still the higher the number the better, but you can't very well compare them to non-MX cards. Non MX cards kick the shit out of MX cards.
As far as ATI, I don't know.

when it says 'sapphire' 9800xt thats just the make, its still based on the ati reference boards. other's that make ati cards are club3d, hightech, gigabyte, etc.
as long as you just concentrate on the numerical id you'll be fine.
this guide from last year gives the low down on most cards
http://graphics.tomshardware.com/graphi ... index.html
it just misses off the newer next gen cards, such as the nividia 6800 ultra and x800xt.

GPU = Graphics processing unit = the video cards processor

No shit mate.
Thanks for the info Mooseraper.
I dont realy agree wholly with the numbers bit unless youre talking about numbers other than its RAM. Pixel pipelines and frequency and architecture matter alot more than its memory.
*Dribble over Radeon X9800XT Platinum*

yeah, generally selling for around £400.
the big difference at the moment is that the x800xt's are rarer than rocking horse shit over here but several sites have 6800 ultra's in stock.
in oct i'll probably be swapping from my x800 pro to the 6800 ultra. i'll slap the pro on ebay. its good but not as good as i was hoping.
