Stumbled on this little gem.

ASUS HD Media Player O!Play HDP-R1 HDMI Interface

Basiclly what it is, it will play music or digital videos through to your tv in full HD. You can network it and pull the files off a network storage device or connect a hard drive through usb or sata. Runs off linux

Quote:
the O!Play HDP-R1 HD Media Player supports a wide variety of media formats including MPEG1/2/4, H.264, VC-1, and the popular RM/RMVB. With the O!Play HDP-R1, you can watch movies or instantly share videos and photos with enhanced clarity.

Why would I want one? Kids! We have a ton of kid movies that get scratched really easy due to our children wanting to play with the dvd's or put them in the dvd player themselves. This would allow me to rip the dvds, put them on a hard drive and use this device to play them through the tv. My other option I was looking at was using my wifes laptop as a media player hooked up to the tv.

Since I have a dedicated home theater pc, that would be of no use to me... but it's still pretty cool. If I didn't have a PC for that, I'd be potentially interested.

My laptop is Asus and that thing is awesome. I had trouble 1 time with an asus motherboard back in the day but this laptop has made me a believer.
