Hey guys, just a quick one (I hope) this time.

I'm finally getting my new hard drive tomorrow and having only just installed everything onto my new pc anyway a couple of months ago, I don't really want to go through reinstalling absolutely everything again. Now it's not a huge problem to do it, after all I don't have that much stuff on here deliberately, knowing I'd probably be getting the new drive, but I was wondering if imaging would be recommended, quick and easy? And does it mean I don't have to do any reinstallation of anything whatsoever?

And if this is easier/quicker than a simple start-from-scratch approach in my case, what imaging programs/guides would you recommend?

Thanks in advance!

Since the piece of hardware changing on your box is the hard drive, imaging would be a good option for you. It should be considerably quicker than reinstalling from scratch.

However, I've never done it, so I'm in no real position to offer advice. Sorry. :(

Well screw it lol. I gave it a go, spent 2.5 - 3 hours copying it with a decent looking program, it finishes, I switch off my pc, unplug the old hard drive... and get a message saying to insert a valid boot device or insert a bootable disc.

So I plugged the old one back in, formatted the new one via windows and have just reinstalled everything on the new hard drive using the old one as a 'live' back up and just copying stuff across.

heh...yea... that's what I would probably do. If your install is more than 6 months old, it's probably good to get a clean start anyway. Good effort though!
