Not much of a change there.

I plan on holding off on my next system rebuild until Windows 7. Then I'm going to Core i7 with DDR3. Hopefully there'll be a significant GPU upgrade I can do then. For now my 8800gt is plenty tough.

Im sorry but to me that is a waste of money, atleast for now.

I agree, right now it's too much. Windows 7 probably won't be out until late this year, though. By then the prices should drop and make it more of a bargain. Prices on SSDs should be down too. I'll definitely be at least partially SSD powered.

Here's the newest suggestion list. The biggest news in the last months is the release of hd4770 which outperforms the hd4830 and is really low priced (for our american friends ofcourse, we still pay ourselves silly in EU)

hehe... one of the few things that us Americans don't get screwed on is computer prices. It sure would be nice to have the cell phones you guys do.

Though I salute ATI's continued aggressiveness in the GPU realm, I'm still an nvidia guy. Thanks to ATI, nvidia is still innovating and the prices are wonderfully low. If I had to buy a graphics card today, it would probably be a GTX275

Yea i was thinking about that card too, or if on a slightly tighter budget a 260 one. The radeon 4890 which is between these cards, is not priced well enough here for me to opt for it.

yea, I agree, if I couldn't afford the 275 I'd go for the 260. Still, I don't plan on a new pc until the end of the year at the earliest. By then there should be whole new lines of cards.

Hmm, somehow i missed that, more evidence that my card is in the mainstream category. It does seem a bit strange that the ati card is a previous generation one.

When one looks at this comparison, the 4850 and 8800gts are pretty much on par with the 4850 leading a bit but the 3870 is pretty much destroyed by either one of them. Strange indeed.

EDIT: I found this benchmark. I think that the Athlon cpu is maxing out hence the very small difference in scores.

EDIT 2: I deleted the image links. Here is the link to the entire article.

They're probably just Ati fanboys or have a partnership or something. Actually I'm not sure who that benefits more...nvidia or ati. *shrug*

btw, your image links were blocked.

mm...I get an image that says 'no deep linking please'. Your browser probably has the images cached. C'est la vie, I'm far too lazy to change anything.

Yeah, that could be the case.
