Post subject:  Mr. Freeman's new laptop

So guys here I am. Celebrating holidays lately. Here is not that much internet, but headaches already.

Soon, I plan to purchase a laptop that will be my ultimate mech for half a decade probably. Problem I met is that, that I did not find a good place to look up for components that are both strictly for an laptop and actual. Already happened that I searched for hous to build a wannabe-good configuration to realize in end that shops offer components I have never heard of.

I post on the other places too and will have to check any single piece of info before I put something in realization, but I'd appreciate any suggestions you might cast here. For now I stated just few conditions: (1) Although I am not feeling like playing Oblivion really, what I am after is a mech that is able to breathe freely under it, and possibly a little more. (2) Weight, if it affects ease of transport only, isn't problem at all - mech can be as hard as laptop can be. (3) SoundFont support. (4) Cache limit for now: 1500eu.

I would highly recommend checking out alienware's offerings. Especially if you want something capable of playing oblivion. Dell's XPS line is over priced, imo.

I thought that with Alienware you mostly pay for the ugly nerd casing?

Well, my laptop is an alienware and I'm very happy with it. It's really heavy, but pretty powerful. And the price was right. However, if you doubt me, check it out yourself.

Compare that to Dell's XPS offerings:

Or falcon northwest...where the base model amd laptop goes for $6000+.

Those Falcon's look good, shame about the price. :)
And I hate sites with music. My music is a hundred times better then what the website builder makes, so I prefer to listen to that.

But your Dell link doesn't work.

Please, keep it on, guys. :)

So far I wasn't able to find anyone here offering alienware products, so any alternatives will be helpful. What would be further options?

Besides, if it prove itself a little impossible to afford (budget can go up to 2000eu ~ $2631), statement (1) might get "Oblivion" changed with much lighter "HL2". So, tips about a little less capable mechs are welcome too.

You don't need a monster laptop to play HL2, it's very scaleable...I could play HL2 just fine on my old pc, given some serious down-tuning. Anyway, Satis could probably direct you to some good laptops, I personally hate laptops. :)

I want a powerdesk

That's some hawt stuff...imagine opening a drawer in your wooden cabinet to fire up your newest game, with your friends looking in awe. ;)

well, I'm an alienware guy. I think that's the best value. But if you don't have a credit card, you're kinda screwed on that.

The dell site is badly designed...no direct linking to stuff, apparently.

About laptops...if you want to play any modern game, or at least ones with 3d engines, you're going to need a gaming laptop. The integrated graphics that come with most laptops just can't handle any gaming at all.

Some more options:
Voodoo PC ... very expensive

and, amazingly, looks like Toshiba has some decent offerings:

Any progress made yet Greemeister? Sorry if my input is limited, I don't know crap about laptops. :)

Ho-ho-ho Freeman's got his new laptop. It is an improved (better CPU, possibly mainboard too) version of this:

Now I score 10227 on 3D Mark03. I might test the other 3D Marks some time later.

The first things I got after that were USB mouse and USB keyboard. I'm still looking for an USB to PS/2 converter.

I have that somewhere here on my table, care to fly here and pick it up? :D

Nice rig, pity the 17" laptops in general look like god damn shovels.

Edit: Satis forgot that Alienware costs more in Europe. The US one = 2034$. UK one = 2573,5$. Thats 500$ more.

Edit2: Thats the same computer i customized on both websites.

Edit3: Its marginally cheaper in DE, costing 2570$

Edit4: Even if subtract the 18% tax (i dont know what it is in germany or uk) its still cheaper in the US.

It's piece of cake for me. Don't forget I'm an over six feet tall guy with over 190lbs in weight. And that ain't fat. Erm, switch to European, it's 183 cm / 87kg.

It's only a disabled foot what worries me about this one now.
