********************** The message for you follows ************************
Dear Steven,
Thank you for contacting Microsoft Windows Update Support. My name is Robin and I am glad to work with you. You can contact me directly by writing an email to
[email protected] with the case ID SRZ060531002226 in the subject line.
From the case log, I understand that we failed to install Windows Genuine advantage Notification KB905474, and the computer froze at 60%-70%, then we were told that our system was not genuine. We will work together to resolve this specific issue through the course of the case. If there has been any
misunderstanding, please let me know.
I understand the inconvenience you have experienced. Please be assured that I will do my best to help you.
Before moving on, I would like to explain that a new Windows Genuine Advantage tool, version 1.5, was released and will be offered by Automatic Update Service (in the system tray) and on the Windows Update website. Its name is changed to Windows Genuine Advantage Notifications, and its update ID is
upgraded from KB892130 to KB905474.
The main goals of WGA Notifications is to inform our customers of the value added services that Microsoft provides to those customers running genuine Microsoft software, as well as help our consumers ensure they are running genuine Microsoft software.
If the new WGA engine could not be installed, it was most likely caused by one of the following factors:
1. The original WGA components are corrupted, and cannot be upgraded.
2. The permission settings in the System Files are inappropriate.
Let us take the following steps to troubleshoot this issue.
Step 1: Use the WGA diagnostic tool
===================
1. Please open Internet Explorer and visit the following link to download the WGA Diagnostic Tool:
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=520122. Save the MGADiag.exe file to the Desktop, and then double click on the file to run the tool.
After running the tool, please return to Windows Update and see if the issue is resolved.
NOTE: Some third party programs can affect the Windows Update service. If you are running any third party applications such as Spyblocker, Internet or Web accelerators (Programs associated to boost up the Speed of the Internet connection), security or anti-virus programs (Norton, MacAfee, etc.), I
recommend we temporarily disable or shut them down and then try accessing the Windows Update site later. Please be sure to enable them again when completing the update process.
However, if the issue persists, we can refer to the next step.
Step 2: Manually install KB905474
============================
1. Please download the update KB905474 from the following website link:
http://www.download.windowsupdate.com/m ... f0926d.exeNote: Since the above URL address is quite long, and separated on two lines. Please copy and paste the URL to the address bar to access it, rather than clicking the hyperlink directly.
2. After downloading the update, please refer to its location. Please double-click the downloaded file, and it will be launched automatically. Please follow the instructions to install it.
If it still cannot be installed, please let me know if you encounter any error code or message. If so, please help capture it using the steps below (Screenshot):

=========

2. Click Start, click Run, type MSPAINT, and click OK.
3. In Paint, click Paste under the Edit menu, click Save under the File menu, type a file name for the snap shot, choose JPEG as "Save as type", and click Save.
4. Repeat steps 1 to 3 if you receive any other message.
5. Please send the files to this email account:
[email protected] in a new email, with the case ID in the subject line.
In the meantime, please proceed with the following steps to reset some system files and registry key permissions. If the permissions are incorrect, this issue may also occur.
Step 3: Reset permissions
===================
This step may take us some time, thus your patience is highly appreciated.
1. Please click the link below and download the tool.
http://www.ecs-safe.com/Reset_subinacl.zipPlease Note: The third-party product discussed here is manufactured by a company that is independent of Microsoft. We make no warranty, implied or otherwise, regarding this product's performance or reliability.

5. Double click the reset.cmd file
6. You will see a DOS-like window processing.
(NOTE: It may take several minutes, please be patient. When it is finished, you will be prompted that "Finished, press any key to continue")
After completing the above steps, please refer to the Windows Update website to install the WGA Notifications again. If the issue persists, please assist me in collecting the following information for further research.
1. Please click "Start", "Run", type: %windir% and then press Enter.
2. Please find and send the "WindowsUpdate.log" (without the space inside) and wganotify.log files to me at
