Post adding a 2nd monitor
I recently got a new computer at home and I still have my old monitor. At work they have a like an adapter that both monitors are plugged into and they it’s plugged in the monitor spot. Is that all I have to do is find the right one to fit my computer? Is there anything else i'll need to do to set it up on my computer? That way when i'm playing swg i wouldnt' have to alt-tab out to check my msn or ventrilo =)

Um, im struggling abit trying to understand.

Youre trying to get 2 monitors attatched to your computer so that you can effectively have 2 applications running at the same time, one per screen? (Some game + Messenger).

I dont know exactly if its possible to do this. What i do know is that some graphics card have additional 'out' ports so that you can get the whole image on 2 monitors. Maybe with the software provided in ATI/nVidia drvers there a way to actually split the applications, like you said.

AFAIK, you need to have a video card that supports multiple monitor output. Check to see if you have multiple out ports on your card. The rest should be handled through your video cards control panel.

Mmm i guess theoretically it should be possible but not without some special software. That is running a different programs on dif monitors.

EDIT: getting one image to run on multiple monitor is simple, just connect and from the settings you can activate it. (i have all together 4 out ports due to sli but im not sure i could actually connect all 4)

for multimonitor setups, you can get hte multimonitor cards, or you can actually run 2 gaphics cards as well. Like 1 AGP and 1 PCI. Just fyi...we did this at my last workplace.

I have seen an adaptor-like device that splits the signal of one 'out' port from the card, and display the same fullscreen image duplicated on two monitors.

Are you thinking of a KVM? A montior switch? I have 3 computers at home and 2 monitors. My spare computer and linux box are connected to a KVM switch that connects to my spare monitor. All I have to do is hit Scroll Lock twice and it switches to the other computer. I have my spare keyboard and mouse hooked up to it as well.

Also, for your SWG situation you could run SWG in windowed mode. Or you could just create a macro that plays the game for your while you alt tab. 8-)

Also, if you get a video card that has 2 montior plug ins your graphics resoultion will be greatly reduced unless you get a Matrox video card.
