| Post subject: | WinXP Home User Areas |
I want to fix my dads home PC by reformatting it and reinstalling all of the software properly. He doesnt have a clue about how to maintain computers so you can imagine with the 5 user areas that hes got set up, it gets fucked up pretty badly. Does anyone know how to set up the user areas so that the users can save games to the HD but not have the abilty to install software? The Win XP user handling is superbly poor, lacks control and functionality. Also another thing, does anyone know how to customise the task bar programs for each user and how to customise processes? Infact, does anyone have a link to like a handbook on WinXPHome user area configuration? Thanks. |

lol To make a user unable to install software but can save programs you have to make the user restrictive in the user's account under control panel. As far as cutomising task bar and process's what exactly are you wanting to do? |

Things like: When user A logs on, he sees nothing but Trillian on the task bar. If user B logs on, he sees nothing but MSN Messenger and C nothing but Yahoo Messenger. In other words. I want to try and get specific programs running on start up for different users. Ie, ones which only he uses. |

You should be able just remove those icon from the programs list logged in as each user. Every user has a seperate profile. What I would do is have ever user be a admin, set up their desktop/program list, then set their permission back to restrictive. |
