Post subject:  [Solved] PC keeps failing to boot.
Pretty much said it all right there, But still the symptoms:

Once I press the power button, the PC switches on, light's up and what not. Monitor fails to turn on (however, it usually takes a few seconds anyway) After a moment, the PC just starts bleeping like some crazy bleep machine on speed.

I figured maybe something was loos inside due to washing machine going off and vibrating everything, but I opened it up today, pushed everything down a little to make sure it was in place correctly, moved aside a few wires to make sure they weren't touching what they weren't supposed to be touching, and then double checked the connections.

When I plugged everything back in, the computer wouldn't even power up, so I removed the power supply, retried, and this time it booted to the bleeping noises. A few angry whacks later, it boots up just fine, as you can see.

It's getting very annoying and I'm wondering if the techy types out there know anything I can try for free before it comes to replacing parts, because I really can't afford it.

yea, beep codes when you start up mean you have a piece of hardware failing. Exactly what your beep codes mean depends on the BIOS on your motherboard. Be glad you're getting beep codes. I've never gotten any. Any time my crap fails, I have to figure it out the hard way.

Well i need a new computer anyway. But i need money. I've signed up for one of them's free iPod things on the net, so I can get the iPod and sell it to a mate at work.

Free iPod?

Back in ye olde days of MS-DOS, i had a big fat book that told me what the beeps meant. I reccommend looking it up, maybe youll be able to make out the individual signals, but as youre saying its beeping like mad, thats probably not going to help.

Its funny that you mention hitting it, then it starts working.

Good luck with it not fucking up in the mean time and good luck saving up for a new one.

Yea, look up the beep codes for your BIOS and figure out what it's talking about. If it's definetely your gfx card it's freakin' out about...replace your graphics card. Not much else to do, really.

Lol, well i think what i'll do is give it a while, see if any new drivers come out, because the ones that windows updates decides to tell me are availble stop my sound working and stuff, graphics get messed, so i ignore those. I'll do a scan of the manufacturers websites etc. My Graphics card is a GeForce 4 MX, but it's built in. I hope my sound system etc isn't the problem because it works nice, and sounds great.

EDIT: I'm not great with the BIOS stuff, where or how do i find out which one i'm on? And you can update the BIOS can't you? *shrugs* it might fix it if i update it , if that's possible.

ok, it has nothing to do with your drivers...the test it's failing is the BIOS boot hardware test...drivers have nothing to do with it. Also, BIOS version has nothing to do with it either. You're looking at a hardware problem, period. Nothing software is going to fix it. :)

After that happy news....your BIOS version should be displayed when you boot up. Usually you can hit a key to go into your BIOS setup (maybe del, maybe F1 or F2, maybe something else entirely) and you should be able to see your BIOS information in there, too.

It's gunna be easier to just buy a new PC from scratch. lol, i need a new mother board anyway because the one I have in here is litterally stuck in to the base unit, one of the screws holding it in will not come out.

Hmmm, the pound-dollar conversion is good at the moment (1 pound is almost 2 dollars) maybe I could buy some new equipment in cheap from the states if the current rate holds out long enough.

Exactly Satis. Watch out for the nasty nasty customs charges. You may end up paying your gains entirely in tax. Think about UK power compatibility too.

I love it that the GBP is pwning the USD atm! :)

I assume GBP == the pound or whatever. Don't know the stupid symbol. But anyway....

hasn't it always owned the $? I don't remember the $ ever being worth more than the L. :)

Yeah as far as i know, pound has always been high in value. Which isn't always a very good thing. But my background isn't too economical so i don't know much about it.

GBP = Great Britain Pound i assume.

If your currency is expensive compared to other currencies, then buying things from those other coutries is cheap, wich is good, but competing with companies from coutries with a low-valued currency is harder, because making stuff is more expensive. Just look at British Steel.
