Okay. Ive decided to use the university internet connection as my primary downloading method. He he. I haven't yet found a way to get Kazaa, emule and WinMX to work on my uni user area and i havent yet found out if i can connect my laptop to the network. So, i am therefore resorting to downloading stuff from the Web for the time being. (with a 250KB/ps d/l rate who can blame me?) Does anyone have any cool links to things? ([edit]). You know, places where i can get my hands on something for nothing? Im sure the Web isn't all that innocent its made out to be. |

If you've got WinMX and eMule, there's no reason to keep fake- and virus-ridden Kazaa. Just get rid of it. ![]() Oh and make sure you don't download any copyrighted stuff, you naughty boy! ![]() |

I think he said he can't get any to work. And chances are he won't be able to. They've probably got a firewall/proxy server blocking common p2p ports. No idea what you should download...I've been on broadband so many years I don't even think about downloading hundreds of megabytes any more. I just do it and get mad at how slow it can be. ![]() |

Oh, yeah, simply change ports then, it's easy with eMule, and WinMX is so geek-only that it must be possible somewhere. But then again, it's still waiting for it's first serious update in decennia, so maybe that just isn't possible. As I said, there's absolutely no reason why you'ld want Kazaa to work. What exactly happens when you try to connect to something? |

Good move. In response to your Q: Well, you know when you first install kazaa/emule/winMX onto a normal computer, you go through a connection setup wizard process, whereby you can determine your connection speed and user name blah blah blah. Well, on a PC at home this would work NP. But on the uni network using a uni computer, the connection wizard doesnt finish because it cant get a connection. Get me? |

Hm, I haven't run the wizard in eMule for ages, but if you go to preferences --> connection, there's a part called clientport, TCP and UDP, just change them into something else (like one number higher or sumthin like that). Also, if you haven't done that yet, switch of the windows firewall. Are you behind a router? |

he's at a college, so he's definetely behind a router and probably a transparent proxy. You can try playing with ports, but chances are you're locked down and it's not going to work. |
