looks good to me. Far as I know, they're all the same size,

Whats the diference between Dual Rank, Single Rank and DIMM?
link to wtf i'm asking about
Or more basically, if I wanted to get a 1 gig stick of ram would this be a sweet ass choice: Linky again

CL4!?
First, you question...dual rank, single rank, and DIMM. First...they're all DIMMs, which is Dual Inline Memory Module. Which basically means both sides of the memory stick are in use or some shit. Once upon a time there were SIMMS (Single Inline Memory Modules) which you had to pair off in order to work. IE, if you had a 128MB stick of RAM, you had to have two paired together. You couldn't pair unlike sticks. Anyway, that's long in the past.
Dual and Single Rank...new to me. I did some googling (which, by the way, YOU CAN DO TOO)...
http://www.valueram.com/memoryranks/default.asp
 | | | | Quote: Q: What is a Memory "Rank"?
The term "rank" was created by JEDEC, the memory industry's standards group.
The concept of Memory Rank applies to all memory module form factors, including desktop DIMMs, notebook SODIMMs, workstation and server Registered DIMMs; in general, though, it is only critical on server platforms due to their higher memory capacity. A Memory Rank is a block or area of data that is created using some or all the memory chips on a memory module.
A rank must be 64-bits of data wide; on memory modules which support Error Correction Code (ECC), the 64-bit wide data area requires an 8-bit wide ECC area for a total width of 72-bits. Depending on how memory modules are engineered, they can contain one, two, or four areas of 64-bit wide data areas (or 72-bit wide areas, where 72 bits = 64 data bits and 8 ECC bits).
Q: Why is the total number of Memory Ranks important?
New servers limit the number of Memory Ranks of PC2700, PC3200, or PC2-3200 memory. That means that the combined number of Memory Ranks for all the memory modules must not exceed the specified maximum number of ranks. If the number of Memory Ranks exceeds the specified maximum ranks, the server may not boot or may not operate reliably.
Q: How many ranks do typical module types have?
Single-sided modules are always single-rank. Doubled-sided unbuffered DIMMs and SODIMMs are always dual-rank.
Registered DIMMs, used for servers and workstations, vary from a single-rank to up to four ranks, as illustrated in the chart below: | | | | |
So...does it matter to you, NO!
And, back to the first thing.
CL4!!? Now, my memory may not be clocked at 533mhz, but it has a cas latency of 2. A cas latency of 4 is huge. Then again, I guess it's DDR2...I'm not sure what the average CAS latency of DDR2 is. Bleh. For best memory performance, shoot for a high clock speed and a low latency, then trade that off with price.

Lol, I could google - but when you explain it, I tend to understand it better.
So I need to check about for other DDR2's to see if I can find a lower CL number...
This one better?

well, that one has a cas latency of 3, but is only clocked at 400mhz.
So...what's better...
533mhz with latency of 4
or
400mhz with latench of 3
beats the shit out of me.
Err...the one you linked is a SO-DIMM, though, which is laptop memory I believe. See how short it is? That's not gonna work on a desktop too well.

Lol, the one time I didn't look at the picture...
Well, that was the only one that I could find that wasn't CL4...

Now we're talking RAM anyway, true and funny story:
My best friend was messing around with his ram bar, clicking it back into its slot on the mobo....but upside down. Don't ask me HOW he did that (he's still wondering himself), but he managed to click in the ram upside down. lolol. Anyway, he fires up his pc, suddenly sees smoking coming out at the back, and pulls the plug as fast as he can. Ram fried, mobo near-molten. On the bright side; he talked the guys at the store into giving him a full warranty refund, but man, is that hilarious or what? Frying your pc by clicking in your ram upside down.
EDIT: btw, as I understand it, low latency ram isn't really all that awesome on most non-specialized pc systems these days. I'd go with the higher mhz one.

Wow....I've actually caught myself trying to insert RAM backwards...the key won't usually let you. That guy must've been forcing it pretty rough, or had a crappy mobo. :p Or both.
Anyway....yea, the higher mhz range will probably be fine. I don't know much about DDR2 RAM yet, so maybe CL4 is fine.

Story and benchmarks on RAM latency:
http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1 ... 762,00.asp
You could probably just skip to the conclusion for what you want to know...comes down to it: minor differences, talking 1-4% here when pushed to the edge. So not really worth it if you're strapped for cash.

Right, that's all the parts ordered (exlcuding GFX cards)
It's the first of the month, and I have no cash left. Luckily, the bigger bills such as council tax are paid, but what little money is left in my account, is for the rest of the bills. Phone line and Electricity to go, Internet is paid, and the Gas/Water bills come quaterly.
It's going to be a very, very tight month.
If any of you are caught up in the looting send me some stuff to sell.

Turns out my Mobo doesn't have intergrated graphics. FUCKING SHIT BASTARD DICK SLAP.
So anyway, answer this question.
This
or
This
The reason I ask is because I will stretch the budget if it is worth it.
edit: Mole here btw - Using pev's PC as mine still isn't complete.

the 6600GT if you can afford it, the few extra fps could mean all the difference in games.
for a comparison btw the 2..
http://graphics.tomshardware.com/graphi ... index.html
in most of the benchmarks theres up to 20-30 fps difference!

the ones on there that I can spot, are all 128mb, the GT that I linked is a 128, but the one before it, is a 256. The benchmarks that I spot, don't match the two products. Never the less *looks again*
Ahah, This is what I was looking for methinks. Here
So I'm going to spend my money on that and cry when it doesn't work.

erm..didn't really understand that, what card are you going to get?
don't be fooled into thinking that a 256 model makes it better, i.e. the 9800 pro 256 mb model is actually in some cases slower than the 128mb model. the GT really is better if you can afford it.
