Satis, you probably know this one best. How much can different OSs use and can you provide some links perhaps?

All I know is that for more than four GB you'll need a 64 bit OS. There are 64 bit versions for Windows versions from XP upwards but I believe you'll have to do without things like Flash. Flash on 64 bit Linux is less of a problem.

yea. 32 bit Vista and XP can only use about 3GB of RAM due to address space limitations. You'll need 64 bit Vista or XP to use more. But there's a bunch of issues with program compatibility when moving to a 64 bit O/S. Most stuff should work, of course, but be prepared for some weirdnesses. Luckily all modern cpus are 64 bit so at least you don't have to worry about that so much any more.

How can i quickly identify if a ram is one sided or two sided. I know to look if it has stones on either side but what i have in mind is that how to identify this when i cant physically see or touch it ie on webshops. Do they even make single side rams anymore?

I don't think they make single sided RAM any more. It's never been something I've needed to worry about.
